Hello all. A little background about my son, Zion. He was born at 25 weeks and spent 97 days in the NICU. The only delay he suffers from is speech and he has been receiving speech therapy for about a year. He is also getting occupational therapy to help develop his fine motor skills. The thought is that he is too physical to sit and develop his fine motor.  My son is pretty hyper, more so than an "average" toddler his age. I have been told this by his speech therapist and his occupational therapist. Zion often doesn't look where he is going when he has a goal (going to get a ball or getting his cup or something like that) and often trips over whatever is on the floor in front of him. I'm not sure if this is considered normal or not. He also rarely responds to his name. If he is focused on the tv or a book or one of his toys, its like I can't get his attention. His hearing has been tested in the NICU and then again at his follow up after release at about 1 year old and it has tested fine. He also responds to other familiar sounds like the door opening when he knows his dad is home, or a Dora song he likes, or other noises that interest him. He is a very social little boy who is always smiling, but this lack of response has me concerned. Could this just be an age issue? Any thoughts are appreciated.
