No clue where this should be posted.

What do y'all use for natural sunscreens? I found some at sprouts but it's so expensive. Just a few ounces for almost $7. O_o

For days that we're going to be pool side or canoeing (anything water related), we use Badger sunscreen.  I buy it on Vitacost.com and always use a code from retailmenot.com to get $ off (I usually have to order other things too to get free shipping, but it's never a problem for me on that website lol).

If we aren't in the water, we use coconut oil.  I fully expect the flames to ignite now that I typed that out. eyesroll.gif

Coconut oil? Really? I've never heard that. So you dont get sunburned with it? Why would you get flamed? If it works, it works..right? Thanks for the reply!!!

When my kids are in kindergarten/school we use Lavera milk with SPF15.

For this summer, I plan to use a mix of raspberry oil (natural SPF from 10 to 40 depending on quality of berries) and shea butter (natural SPF4-8). We are usually exposed to the sun only from sunrise till 10-10.30 and after that from 16.30 till sunset.

I've never gotten sunburned with coconut oil.  It makes me tan.  I'm very fair skinned (Nordic heritage) so that was a shock for me.  There have been many a thread on here about how coconut oil doesn't work as a sunscreen etc.  If you search for it, you'll probably pull up quite a bit.

coconut oil has worked for us too and i'm very prone to burning.  In fact I routinely got hives as a child from sun exposure.  coconut oil is lovely, though I do suspect part of it's efficacy is a result of internal and external application.  if you're well oiled on the inside you have to worry less about the outside!  I also don't know how well it would work without good things like antioxidants and beta carotene in your system.

Having proper selenium levels helps protect from sun damage. Brazil nuts are an excellent source.

I use coconut oil as well on most days. and sometimes st. john's wort oil. If I am in a position where we have to have sun protection all day and we are on th ego I will use Elemental Herbs sunscreen. Expensive but worth it imo.

Sweet! I buy shea in bulk to make lotions, I had no idea! As for the rasberry oil, where do you get yours?
