5.5yo son with redness under foreskin of uncirc. penis

Under my 5.5yo son's foreskin, slightly to the right of the tip of his penis, it is bright red in a very small area, looks infected or hurt.  He complains of slight discomfort.  What to do?  He is a thorough explorer of his body which may have contributed.

In the past he had an issue where his penis would hurt after urnination and he seemed to very sore (this was suspiciously a week or so after his 4 yo checkup, suspect MDs!). We were then told to retract the penis 3 times a day and apply Balmex for 2 weeks, then do the same with Vaseline for 2 weeks.  Now he is understandably reluctant to address or speak up about issues in this area.

OK it could be that he just scratched that spot or that spot recently released from the glans. If that is the case then time will heal it and you can put a barrier cream on there if it is really hurting him.

I dont agree at all with the retraction advice because that could have contributed to the spot being sore. Did the Dr. retract him at the 4yo checkup? That is a big : and you should make sure it dosnt happen again.

Warm baths are soothing and baking soda added can help. If it burns when he urinates have him do so in a cup of water that helps dilute the urine and stop the burn.
