Burn Scar

How can I keep a large-ish burn scar (deep 2nd degree) from getting too thick, hard and rough? Would something like lanolin help with that? The burn is almost 4 months old now and is finally not so tender and sensitive. Is there even a way to prevent the thickening and hardening? I've been rubbing olive oil into it several times a day for over a month. Thanks!

My Mom has a bad burn as well.  She used straight vitamin e capsules and busted them open to apply to the wound.

I'm embarrassed that vitamin E oil didn't come to mind when I've used it for less severe burns in the past. Thanks for the reminder, Xantho!

Emu oil is suppose to be good for burns. Not sure about a scar, but worth looking in to. I used it on my daughter after a bad bun--used the bacitracian first when worried about infection, and emu there after. Her burn healed nicely with only some speckled skin coloring (2nd degree on torso).
