Can anyone give a "step by step" ear wax removal guide??

DD who is 35 mos has some good size chunk of wax in her right ear. I can definitely see it. Occasionally she itches it a bit and says it hurts (not often, but sometimes). As an aside, this happens to be the side her lymph nodes have been swollen (since she was a baby).

In any case, I've read a couple of the forums on this but didnt quite find an answer that really went step by step on how to get rid of it. 

Can anyone help? Is there a difference between using olive oil and hydrogen peroxide and debrox?? If I use debrox do I just follow the directions on the box like an adult?? I've also read stuff online saying if you have to clean wax any deeper than the outer ear than have your doctor do it. Stuff like that makes me paranoid, even though I think they are written by very medically based sources.

I would soak a cotton ball in oil (olive, vegitable, mineral, whatever) and hold it against the ear as long as you can manage, then wipe out whatever wax has dissolved if you can reach it without sticking anything in her ear.

Wax is soluble in oils. Hydrogen peroxide doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, I can imagine it being very uncomfortable. 

If you do this and it still really bothers her, mention it to a pediatrician. I wouldn't be paranoid, it might be uncomfortable but it's definitely not an emergency.

My 6 month old constantly has wax in her ears and it drives me crazy, but I stop my self from sticking my finger in there because well it's HER ear and it doesn't matter how much it bothers me, lol!

OH!!! I must be really dense.  I guess I've read that before but thought there was something more to it, like flushing out the ear or something.  Okay, well, good to know.  Will try it tomorrow.  Thanks!!
