Hello Dr. Sears,
I'm 30 weeks pregnant and have been asked to take two TB tests in order to participate as a volunteer in a local organization. I haven't had a TB test for 3 years, so my previous tests are not acceptable proof of my being TB free. If my own doctor recommended testing because I'd been exposed to TB then I'd do it. But I haven't had an exposure that I know of and am certainly not high risk for it. My inclination is to avoid the testing (and therefore, unfortunately, the volunteering) until I've given birth. However, the ingredients in the injection seem much simpler than those in vaccines. (I understand that it is a test and not a vaccine.) What are your recommendations regarding TB testing when there hasn't been TB exposure?
