How long does it take your toddler to fall asleep?

I used to be able to nurse DD to sleep in a rocker until she got to be about 12 months and we transitioned to her falling asleep with a pacifier laying in the crib with me IN the crib with her. Crazy i know but she doens't like it when i ma behind bars and she can't get to me. Back when she was nursing to sleep it took maybe 10-15 minuets for her to fall asleep. Now sometimes in the crib it can take up to 45 minuets. Hah, i've been known to fall asleep before her in the crib by accident haha. I would say her average time to fall asleep is a half hour. It seems like when i go to bed at night it only takes me maybe 5 minuets if that. Is it typical for her to take this long? She just tosses and turns, pokes at me, etc until she finally rolls onto her belly and gets quiet. I always wonder if it is that she is A overtired or B not tired enough.

Well, it's not so crazy.  I ended up taking the side of her crib off and pushing the recliner up next to is as a bed rail and a way for me to lay next to her.  She is 18 months.  I lay her down with her binky and blankie and I play DS while I sing to her.  She usually falls asleep in about 15 minutes.  I have found that rocking her and such didn't work because she was restless.  I also let her get up and go look at a book.  It's like she needs the disengaging but still wants me there so I'm kind of like furniture at that point!

DD is 16 months old and is now choosing to not always nurse to sleep and just wants to lay beside me (we co-sleep so it's in our bed). The majority of the time it takes 10-20 minutes for her to fall asleep.

We just recently stopped nursing to sleep. Dh bounces dd (18 months) to sleep after I nurse her on the couch. He lays her in her crib once she's asleep. She sleeps soundly until midnight or so, then we take her back to bed with us when she wakes up.

Bouncing her to sleep can take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes depending on how willing she is to relax. This sounds like a lot but it's soooo much better than when she nursed for that long and didn't fall asleep soundly for hours (she used to wake 2-3 times before 11).
