FDA Ban on Water Birthing Pools

I just finished writing a post about this, in the event that you haven't heard about it. I hope that you all will help us to elicit change, getting those birthing pools to their rightful owners and out of the FDAs hands.

This is simultaneously appalling and unsurprising.  ERGH!  One more way to mess with womens' reproductive rights.  I'm going to be cursing under my breath for the rest of the day.

I've been trying to find the recall or article on the FDA's site that details their actions, do you have one?

It wasn't a recall-they are simply holding a shipment of them because they weren't labeled as medical equipment.  Not something I would think they would put on their website.

I put a link in the post to the FDAs hold, as well as a link explaining what a 510(k) is. :)

I understand that now, but going by the title of this thread "FDA Ban of Water Birthing Pools" it seems there has been a gross misunderstanding of what happened. There is no ban on water birthing pools, no recall, etc. it's sad that it was blown out of proportion and we have bloggers that post, on a crunchy board like this, such a misleading title just for the purpose of creating an uproar and get clicks to her blog.

While I agree the title could be worded better, I don't think the uproar is without merit.  In effect, the FDA is attempting to ban them, they are just using a backdoor.

Hi KABB, Although i am sure your intentions are good, it would be nice to not have assumptions made about me. :)

It is not to get clicks on my blog, it is simply easier to link rather than retype all (because the post itself has additional information linked within THAT one). Additionally, it is not to create an unmerited uproar, the FDA WAS threatening to destroy the shipment and put a halt on incoming shipments.

The FDA has now returned them to the rightful business owner but says not to sell them. Additionally, there have been threats not to allow any more into the U.S. buyers hands until things are outlined, but so far there hasn't been anything in writing.
