shaking his head - what's wrong? please help

OK, maybe this is nothing, but it seems weird.  DS has started shaking his head back and forth.  Maybe 6 times kinda hard.  A few times a day.  I've never seen him do this before a day or so ago, though he is usually in daycare during the week.  It's almost as if he's trying to shake water out of his ear or ... I don't know.  It just looks weird.  He also has a bad cough and runny nose, but no fever.  Is this just a baby thing or should I be concerned?  I'm 2 hours from his pediatrician and moving out of state tomorrow.  Also concerned because we are flying tomorrow.

Thanks mamas!

My dd, 9 months, does this all of the time. I think she is just learning how to manipulate her body, kwim? In fact, we were just at the Ped. and her ears were totally clear.

THANK YOU!  I just was hoping someone would come and say just that lol  I'm sitting here with him and it does kinda seem like learning how his body moves, but I just have fears of something being "wrong", ya know?

I started a thread about this some months back (I don;t have time to go find it now, sorry). I think my son was around 6 months or a little older and was shaking his head all the time...not hard, but a lot. Several mamas replied that their baby also had had a head-shaking phase and it was nothing to worry about. I think maybe they find it amusing that when they do it, everything looks funny. Who knows! Anyway, I wouldn't worry. BTW DS does not do it anymore (at 12 months)

This shows perfectly why hanging out here is not a waste of time!  I go through time periods where I can be on a lot or can barely be on at all.  If I'd been online around then and read that I would've just said, 'oh yeah, I read about this already'!  Thanks for the summery thumb.gif

Shake your head really hard a few times. Feel dizzy right? Some kids I think just like this feeling - he'll probably be the kid who will like the merry go round!

DS does this all the time.  I shake my head back at him or else nod at him, he thinks it is hilarious.
