red, swollen foreskin in a 2 month old?

when I took off my 2 month old's overnight diaper this morning his foreskin was red and swollen. when I first removed his diaper the sphincter was open, so I waited a couple minutes before diapering him again and he peed, though it did seem to take him a little longer that usual. he's only been changed by me and his dad, so he hasn't been retracted. I don't see any puss or discharge. a couple weeks ago there were a couple beads of smegma(sp?) on his penis when I changed him, and he's just getting over a cold. so, any thought on why it would be swollen? and ideas of what I can try before going to the doctor?

My guess is either a bad diaper rash or possibly he had yeast. Both can cause the swelling that you are describing. If you have some nystatin you can try that and see if it helps but if not then I would go ahead and take him in to the Dr and have a culture swab done to make sure it isnt bacterial.

If your having ammonia problems with your cloth diapers that can cause redness too.  But usually blisters more then swelling.  A bath with baking soda in the water might help, at the least it won't hurt.
