Perfect castor oil induction

Yes,  I gave in and tried castor oil, and you know, I'm so glad I did!  It was not the horror intense labor that I was hearing it would be.  I had diarrhea all night, then that ended (still got 5 hours of sleep), and than I began natural labor at 9am.  It was the perfect birth, I labored at home for 7 hours with my sister & doula.  Intensity and pain slowly became greater over time, which was perfect, as far as handling it mentally.  Got to the hospital and started pushing 15 min's later.  Pushed for about 30 min's because my water hadn't broken.  My water broke as I pushed out her head, which I did all on my own, I felt the membranes and felt each push with my fingers in my birth canal, squatting on the bed.  Finally a doctor came in after I had delivered the head, and he told me how to turn the head to deliver the rest (ironically, it was the same awesome on-call OB that delivered my first when my midwife couldn't make it).  Then my awesome midwife came in 2 1/2 minuites after I had her, and took over for the placenta delivery and postpartum care.  It was just an amazing perfect experience :)  Gender was a surprise, now I have 3 beautiful daughters, I'm so in love :)

Congrats! I had a false castor oil induction (labor started after the diarrhea stopped then fizzled out), but a week to the day later had labor start, so who knows if it helped or not? Glad it worked for you!

Just a warning for those who are tempted... the taste is wretched. Just thinking about the castor oil taste is making me nauseated right now...

A castor oil shake is much better and doesn't cause diarrhea. Here's the recipe: 2 cups ice cream, 2 oz castor oil and one egg. Blend with enough milk to thin it and drink the whole thing within 30 minutes. This works best if you are at least dilated to 2cm and 50% effaced. The reason for no diarrhea is the egg bind with the fat and it stays in your stomach instead of plowing through you. It works with your body's own hormones and will usually kick you into labor. If no contractions after 2-3 hours, you can make a second drink. I always recommend doing it first thing in the morning after a good nights sleep :0)

I had tried it a week prior with eggs and it caused even more severe diarrhea than the time it worked...so for me it didn't matter.

Bummer...Did you mix only castor oil and eggs or did you make the shake with the ice cream as well?
