Low Supply and thyroid

I've read that low supply can be related to hypothyroidism. I've never had blood work done for it, but have mild symptoms. So mild that they could be explained away by other causes and would likely not yield much by blood test. Still I just ordered some iodine because I'm sure I'm deficient.

Anyway, my question is, if you've dealt with low supply and low thyroid, were you able to increase your milk supply by correcting the thyroid problem?

You can quickly test your own iodine levels! Purchase iodine from the pharmacy. Paint a 2" circle on the inside of your arm. Watch the circle and see when it disappears. If it takes longer than 4 hours, your levels are decent. Longer than 8 hours, your levels are perfect.

Are you taking Vitamin D? It can make all the difference for some people.

Fish oil/omega 3, 6,9 also can help boost a slowly failing thyroid.

Look into it!

Just adding my story.  I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis (hypo) and when I had low supply after DS was born, we got my levels checked, thinking that must be the magic ticket...but it wasn't.  They were normal and I still had the low supply.  Not that you shouldn't get them checked but that's just my story.  We haven't been able to find an explanation for my low supply.

I'll try that. I've been really bad about taking my vit d and fish oil even though I have them right here in the house.

Isn't Hashimoto's a reason for low supply anyway? I thought I read that last night.  Here's the link: http://thyroid.about.com/library/derry/bl12.htm I guess I was thinking that Hashimoto's was the same as the temporary, pregnancy induced hypothyroidism. . .

It seems from that article that he expects one to have low thyriod after pg but I didn't.  When I got them checked, they were normal.  *shrug*
