kidneys in hyperdrive?

The last 2 days I've suddenly become really thirsty and have been drinking and peeing lots. I still feel dehydrated. I've used some rehydration salts too. It started when I took a magnesium supplement (natural calm). I'm 6 months pregnant. I feel like my kidneys have gone into hyperdrive or something. Does anyone know anything about it? It looks like it's not uncommon in prenancy ( a search on the web found lots of forum messages about it), but it doesn't feel like it's exactly normal, either. It started suddenly. When I think about it, I think dh may have been having the same thing for ages, but I can't find anything on it. Any ideas, anyone?

Thank you.

Cathy

I should have added, it's not diabetes as I have urine dip sticks for glucose and they are clear (I have had some glucose in urine previously so I bought dip sticks to keep an eye on it).

I had this during one of my pregnancies as well. My midwife said it was not uncommon. Strange that that dh would have it as well though! Sympathy symptoms?smile.gif

Thanks for replying :-)

I think I found out what it is - lack of salt, or electrolyte imbalance (salt, or potassium, or a few other things I think), can make the kidneys keep putting out water even though your body is drier than it should be. I had some salt and bananas (?potassium) and the immediate problem stopped. It did happen again a bit the next day but again stopped with salt. I still feel thirstier than usual and feel I have to keep keeping an eye on it but at least I have some idea what is going on. I hadn't taken any salt at all the couple of days before it started (and I don't have any swelling or water storing probs in my body). Maybe we are more prone to the electrolyte imbalance during pregnancy?

Thanks again,

Cathy
