My older son nursed until about a month after he turned 4, and he then weaned himself. Â I don't broadcast it, but when people find out they are often shocked. Â I used to use the "in a lot of other countries, extended breastfeeding is totally normal" but I would like some actual statistics so I can back that up with facts! Â Someone told me that in Africa, children are often breastfed for several years but when I tried to tell that to a friend from Ghana who was horrified that I had breastfed ds that long, he insisted that 18 months was a "long time" there.Â
Does anyone have any solid info with these facts, so I can go back to using this argument again? (I have a 2 month old and already people are asking if I am going to "let" him breastfeed as long as his older brother, UGH!) I know I can tell people to mind their own business, but if they are trying to shame me I prefer to turn around and shame them with the facts, lol! ;)
