Bottled water or bad-quality tap

What great choices I have, right? I have been torn with this issue for some time but now that I am pregnant again, I want to make sure I am doing the absolute best I can and am seeking advice.

I used to drink our tap water filtered from the fridge.  Then, after receiving our water quality reports over and over again stating our water had higher levels of radon in it I really started to worry about it, and then, later on, being informed that our water was contaminated with E. coli at one point, I started drinking bottled water and that was the end of it.  We used to use the Brita, but to me it's not going to do a thing when it comes to that kind of contamination.  (The water quality reports make me sick saying the level of radon in the water will not harm you unless you drink so much of it every single day for the next 70 years or so, and then there is a small chance of cancer. What a crock!)

Anyway, we are looking into a whole house filter right now, but in the meantime, since I am pregnant, what would you do? Do you think the bottled water is safer than our crappy tap?  I worry about the plastic.  Is there a brand of bottled water out there where the plastic is safe?

TIA!

Check out the Berkey water filter -- it is a countertop, stainless filter that is much less costly than a whole house filter if you need an interim solution.  You can compare your water quality report/contaminants to what it filters out to see if it's a good match.

Thank you MAMom.  I'll check it out. Someone from Culligan is coming to our house on Tuesday for a consultation so we'll see what he says.  Kind of afraid of the cost but they do have payment plans.  If it's too much for now, I will certainly check out Berkey.
