Glad to hear you've found some clam, OP.  I also have a 3 yr old and a new 1 yr old.  We go through the same stuff as you and it's maddening.  I totally hear you on having a hard time knowing where to draw the line.  It seems that in the last 3 mo. my 3 yr old has completely changed into a different person and I'm struggling with how to handle it.   So about your rules-I think you're doing great with even just those 2.  I also reinforce "love and respect"  and that's my main rule.  I also request cooperation.  I think love and respect really encompasses all of what I want my DD's and myself to demonstrate.  The more I remind DD of the rule, the more I'm able to find some compassion within myself.  Good luck to you!

I spanked my 3 year old daughter this evening and left a red mark on her thigh i feel terrible. I Havent stopped crying. she refuses to go to bed. She doesn't go to sleep till 12-1am most nights. I'm so tired and exhausted I've been dealing with this from day dot. Doesn't matter how many times I break her habit she refuses to sleep. I've tried getting her up really early but that only inflames the situation because she gets so tired and grumpy. It's gets so frustrating and I'm afraid I'll lose control on her I've spoken to doctors but all they say is "she'll grow out of it". She also doesn't like going to bed without me laying with her. She's not scared it's just her being difficult. I'm just so warn out what do I do? Am I bad mother I love my daughter so much, I would never intentionally hurt her. But it's getting me down. I didn't realize how hard I actually spanked her.
