I had a crazy busy work day today and ran out of time to workout at the y. But running related: popped in my 6 week 6 pack video and did 30 minutes of cardio/core stuff. Boring, but I don't have a treadmill and my husband is out of town.

sleep, yes. indeed. I didn't get enough last night and paid dearly today.

JayGee, you're inspiring!

Science experiments:
Using red cabbage juice as a pH indicator
Chromatography with candies
And lots of good ones here: http://www.scienceworld.ca/make-stuff

La, the iron wouldn't change your result by tomorrow (it would
probably take a couple of weeks). They were maybe counting on the variations/error of margin in their testing. A bit of dehydration would bring your number up by tomorrow, but not a great idea for blood donation wink1.gif

Birthday today was busy, but good. Biked kids to school, made risotto for dinner while working from home, biked to the gym and did 30 mins weight training circuit, biked home, had lunch with my husband, went to work and taught lab, and finished early and made it home in time to see the kids before they went to bed. The girls bought me a lily for the garden, and I'm enjoying some vitamin water before bed.

lala~According to this fact sheet, the new red blood cells start being formed within a couple of days of supplementation, but it takes 2 to 3 weeks for the hemoglobin count to increase. I'd say it depends on how low you were. If you were borderline, I bet if you ate a nice big steak or burger, you'd probably be fine within a couple of days. If it was significant, I'd wait longer.

One more fun day of orientation. Not. I thought today would be the day where we actually started learning what we are going to do, but not so much. Instead, it was more boring stuff about risk management, and interpreter services and blahblahblah. At least we got to go home at noon. I had a few hours with DS (including one last magnificent tantrum that resulted from me yelling at him for climbing on me--literally, on my back--as I was trying to talk to the vet's office on the phone rolleyes.gif) and then shipped him off to Ohio with XH. Ahhhh. I know I'm going to miss him soon enough, but I have to admit, I'm sure enjoying the peace and quiet and freedom. bag.gif

Since I could, I went to the Denver Trail Runners group run. I've run with their Sunday group a few times, but never been able to make it to the Thursday group. It was a huge group. And ridiculously fast. There were a couple of slower runners my speed, including one who turned out to be the girlfriend of a guy I know through Twitter. She just moved here from Texas, so even though I can tell she's really quite a bit faster than me, the altitude was kicking her butt, so we ran pretty well together. Altogether, just under 6 miles on some of my favorite trails and a new friend. And then Noodles for dinner. eat.gif

Time to wrap things up and get to bed. One more day of orientation in the morning...8-4, woohoo!

Hi all.

It's 2 a.m. and for some reason I am up and can't get back to sleep. I will not be loving life in about 4 hours but at least I'll sleep in on Saturday (I hope).

Wednesday's "National Running Day" run was a fail. Did not feel well, GI issues. I hate that feeling like you're going to lose it in the middle of the run and the only thing to do is stop and walk and pray you make it home in time. eyesroll.gif  Thursday's was a bit better although I kind of bonked by the end and walked the last .25 mile. It was hot, I was really tired, and I hadn't actually had much to eat all day when I thought about it...oh well.

Work is starting to wrap up, Monday is the last day with students and then I'm there all the rest of the week cleaning up the classroom, etc. I am off with my kids the following week and have to find time to pack up everything we'll need for the summer plus some other stuff to take with me as dh will be packing the house for the movers after I'm gone and there are some things I know will get badly packed or missed... still it's a chore I'm glad not to be having to do. Unless I fly down on my own and help him which wouldn't be bad...I mean packing up a house isn't exactly a great 'date' but it would mean we'd be alone together! lol.gif

Anyway. Lots coming, and hopefully some running to deal with it all.

Why, oh why, can I not sleep past 5:30am in the summer???  Argh!

Nic ~ I actually would choose to fly down and help my DH help pack the house lol.gif, but I crave alone time with him too so I understand.  I hope your last few weeks go smoothly.  Take a deep breath, and dive in!

Gaye ~ that trail run sounds great!  And a new friend is always good.  As are noodles!

MelW ~ thanks for more science experiment ideas thumb.gif

Lala ~ your posts never fail to make me laugh!  You've got a real way with words.

Day off today, so no running, but we are having a family adventure of some kind (DH is off), so I know I'll be doing "something".  Yesterday afternoon DD2 fell off her bike onto her face and it really looked like she might have broken her cheekbone.  It swelled up and turned purple immediately.  She was screaming about how much it hurt and that she couldn't move her mouth.  I had two extra kids at my house and neither of their parents were home, so there was no way to drive her to the ER with all those children. I ended up calling 911 and the ambulance came.  Luckily, the EMT was "almost" sure it was just a really bad bruise and we didn't transport, but whoa, what a scare!  My hardcore little trooper was back out on her bike hammering up hills by 7:00 last night though!  We'll see how her face looks this morning.  Last night she looked like a black and blue chipmunk!

Yikes, JayGee.  When my kids have had banged up faces, I've felt compelled to put them in that "I do all my own stunts" t-shirt for fear someone might report me otherwise.

Mel - That website is fantastic!

I'm bringing DS and my new CrackPad (for all values of Crack = i) to work today.  Then his last private swim lesson.  Then grab DD at school, and somehow get the kids to the pool, and find some time to make a cover of the CrackPad since I can't stomach the $40-$60 they're selling for.  Think I can do this without the pattern?

I went to the PTO mommy's party last night.  For those of you who don't know, I live in a *very* fancy neighborhood.  I got to see how the other half lives.  {Though honestly, I acknowledge that it's really just the other other half...}  The host owns a winery in Napa with award-winning wine.  Fancy food.  Fancy wine.  Fancy people.  Fancy house.  A mixture of really interesting and fun people with unbelievably dull people whose priorities I find baffling.

Now it's just 50 final exams and 50 final projects between me and summer.

Happy birthday Plady and Mel! Are you going to get that solo swim, Mel? That sounded like a fantastic plan.

JG: Oh no, poor girl!! That sounds really painful! Thank goodness it's just a bruise, but that can take a long time healing, too.

Geo: Sounds like an interesting party - and I wish I had a friend who owned a vineyard! Do you mean that we are also the "other half" so these people are the "other, other half"? Sometimes I have to have things spelled out for me. lol.gif

Gaye, hang in there! Just one more day...

Got my run in today, just 3 miles. I am in a complete rut with these 3-milers! It's all my RP wants to do, and I lack the gumption to go somewhere else and plan my own longer run, or speedwork - whichever. I need both.

Geo what happened to your nanny? (It sounds like you're doing double time with the kids this week?) report back on the ipad. I see us getting one this fall.

Happy birthday plady!

Nic - sorry to hear your run was a bust. Happy last Friday of work.

My neighbor children whose parents are on a mission trip to Russia are coming over for dinner. I adore these kids. Really they are the reason my children aren't in a charter school and that we still live here (vs. moving 5 miles to be out in the woods). Leah Lu has been asking for about 2 weeks now when the "kids dinner party" is. Their parents are nice too...

I think I'm caught up around here now.  Whew...that June thread slipped right by me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MEL AND PLADY!  I hope your days are filled with fun things, treats, and maybe a run. ;)

JG ~ How scary!  I hope she's feeling better this morning! ((Hugs))

House update: some big things on the home inspection but we are getting estimates for it all now.  It looks as though our rental is going to be sold and we'll have a notice soon to be out by a certain date.  We've shown the house 4 times since Monday, and some showings to the same people who came with contractors.

Today I'm not babysitting, V slept in, and she's in a good mood.  It HAS TO BE a good day!  Happy Friday all. :)

Happy June thread! biggrinbounce.gif

I biked 10 this morning, took the kids to childcare, am now at work about to register incoming students... busyness. I have a ton of yardwork to do at home and am going to try to sneak in a run before PT tomorrow morning, so I can report to her how my legs/feet/knees are doing.

It's hot and sweaty here. That's all I can say. I think we'll have to break down and use the A/C today.

Crazy day today: drop off ds for last 1/2 day of school ("field day"), then to the gym with both dd's. 8 year old went to childcare. Whatever. After the morning I had with them, between the fire in AZ that left ash all over my car (bizarre and sad; I was enjoying the smell all last night of what I thought was someone's fireplace, and then it occurred to me around bedtime that it might be a real fire b/c it smelled a little too much like a campfire. Turned out I was right crap.gif), then a bird fallen from a nest was found by the dog and maimed, and my kids were freaking out, while I was trying to get them dressed fed, packed, and me as well. Then out the door after cleaning a big spill, only to have another spill in the car, all over ds' clothes (whatev' kid, its field day).

Gym was good. I felt strong. Brick: 53 minutes bike intervals, 21 minutes c25k, both with good push. Im in the progesterone half of the cycle, so usually working out is very hard to do, but I got a ton of sleep last night (went to bed early) and took a combo of pms herbs and I felt ok. After the gym I took dd2 to her swim lesson which happens at another pool than the gym pool b/c it is organized through her preschool, which continues through the summer, but since she only goes three mornings, i take her to the lessons on the days she isnt in school. Of course both dd's forgot something at the gym so as she was swimming dd1 and I went back to the gym to get the stuff. Then back to pick up dd2, then to school to pick up ds, now home for lunch, and then a swim party with the climbing team at one of their houses, then to family friends for dinner, in the middle of which I need to take dd1 to violin. Whew. I told dh Im having a bottle of wine for dinner.

On the pms front, I have an appt. with a FP next week where I will get lots of tests, b/c one of the symptoms Ive been having for about a month that is very scary and sad is that my hair is falling out in CLUMPS. The only other time this has happened is post-partum. Seriously, its scary, and now my hair is really thin greensad.gif I hope I can find some answers with some blood-work.

Ok gotta finish making lunch and getting ready for the pool party. Sorry no personals!!!!!

Oh Hi, subbing and realized it's been a week!

My marathon went well. Perfect weather and great course support. Stomach felt a lot better the morning of and I was so, so grateful when I woke up feeling OK!!! Ran the race pretty well on pace until mile 15, when everything got really stiff. I just did the best I could from that point on. Didn't hit my goal for the race but finished with a 4:29:40 which I was happy with. The whole last 10 miles I was telling myself, "Just get under 4:30" and was thrilled by the finish.

Recovery is good, have never felt so good after a marathon. Did my first run yesterday and felt OK. Sat pouring over my Hal Higdon notes and made a training plan for that blends recovery with some work to get me ready for my next marathon in 5 weeks.

Sorry I haven't had time to check in and make a race report. My work has been taxing, more stress from coworkers. Sheesh. I am not confrontational but one good thing to come of this is that it has forced me to confront. At some point they will get sick of me bitching at them right?

I found a summer running camp for my two oldest. I am so emotionally invested in them loving it. I totally realize this is unrealistic and setting me up for disappointment but I love running so much and am so thrilled that they are psyched to do this camp LOL we shall see how it all shakes out......... (run.gif don't know if they realize they are baby Dingos!! Haha)

Our city is having a bike celebration where the downtown streets are shut down and people bike all over. There are tons of stops along the downtown route, with bounce houses, bands, fun stuff. I am so excited to spend the day outside. Also gonna try to do a long, slow easy run and test out my legs.

Take it easy. I don't have to work this weekend, so hope to have some time to catch up with all of you!

I. Am. Oriented. Or at least enough to move on to continue orienting on the unit during actual shifts. Today was by far the best day of orientation since we were actually discussing what we can and can't do in our role and doing a bit of a skills refresher. It will be a muy bien paycheck when I get it, at least! Not to mention that I'll have two shifts next week on it, and one will be a night/weekend shift, which is an extra $6 an hour!

I kind of feel like I should go do some sort of workout, but instead, I think I'm going to just plant myself right hear on my couch for the duration. I have not spent enough time with my couch this week, and I really quite enjoy it. bag.gif

Tomorrow...sleeping in and then some sort of run before I go shopping for a wedding present for the wedding I need to go to tomorrow night. Where I will not know anyone except the bride and one bridesmaid. Hopefully they have some fun friends!

I know I'm behind, but had to come to report my accomplishment of the day!

I have been trying, for, oh, the past 3 years to lay down some mulch around the kids' swing set (swing/slide combo thing).  It is a huge job requiring the digging up of the grass/weeds.  Well, because this project has spanned several years, I had to do some repair work on the weeds.  Anyway, I set about doing it today, spent about 4 hours digging up the remaining vegetation, laid down paper and put down the rubber mulch that is in all the cool playgrounds!  All told, it took around 6 hours of pretty hard labor.  I still need to get a little more of the mulch, but it is almost done!  I'm so happy with how it looks.  It is so much better than the mud pit that the kids have been playing in!

Sparkle - About the hair falling out.  Maye it is your thyroid?  I have a friend who has thyroid issues, and this is one of her symptoms.

:lol  Sorry, that was just acknowledging the for the vast majority of the country, I am living the other half.  However, in my rather fancy town, I often joke that my
little neighborhood is the "slums."  It's not.  Not even close.  But this party house.  <whistle>  Maybe 3500 sq ft, with a kitchen bigger than our first apartment (not an exaggeration, though our first apt was pretty tiny), spiffy art on the walls, hand laid tiles in their three season room in an artful mosaic, yada yada.  Plus the $40 bottles of wine, made at this woman's winery.

My nanny is 24.  Hence everyone she knows is getting married.  The year I was 24 I think DH and I went to 10 weddings.  She'll be close to that this year as well.  This week it's her brother.  Last week it was her brother-in-law.  Both were in far flung places.  Kinda hard to begrudge that, especially since we knew about the dates in February.

IPad, not much to say yet, except that DS has it mastered, is now addicted to Soduku and GoogleEarth.  I like the iBooks app.  Next week I'll figure out how to make it work for its intended purpose - freeing me from my laptop when I travel.

4 more days of school.  HUGE "optional" summer homework packets came home today, with a "learning activities" log requiring parent initials.  If it's optional, why are you asking me to initial it?  This doesn't smell optional.  I'm tempted to take it at the teacher's word, and do the reading and one project DD had decided she wanted to do (write a fairy book about paleontologists).

RR:  5 on the docket for tomorrow.  12 Sunday.

Geo, she makes me smile, that girlie. orngbiggrin.gif

ND, you rock!

Can I ask a pathetic question? If one of my toenails falls off, can I still wear open-toe sandals? The thought of covering my feet until the damn toenail grows back is weep-worthy, but I also don't want to gross people out. (Although I realize this is small potatoes compared to people who have serious and permanent disabilities and who have no choice but to weather the reactions of those around them, and I would never, ever tell someone to stay home or cover up because of a scar or other "imperfection" - I'm having a self-image-crisis kind of week and mean the question seriously.) And, um, I just ordered some gorgeous purple sandals, which would display my horrifying toe just beautifully.

Planning to run tomorrow, just to give the old legs a stretch, and then go to PT to whine about how much my knees hurt. Mmmm. And putter in the garden, and clean house...

Happy birthday, Plady!!!! I hope you had a great one!

Penelope, I'd go ahead with sandals, but not do polish or anything fancy that would draw attention to the missing toenail. People arent generally staring at feet, right?

Birthday weekend alone may turn into birthday weekend at home with sick toddler. DH offered to be the one to stay home, but I don't feel like traveling. I might see if I can get a friend to watch her for a bit so I can still do the swim, but the rest of the relaxing weekend is not as planned.

MelW ~ Bummer about the sick toddler on your birthday weekend greensad.gif.

Penelope ~ wear the sandals, and don't worry about your toe!

Geo ~ really?  A "homework packet" for summer?!  Luckily our school hasn't gone quite that far yet.  Cool story idea for your DD to write though.

sparkle ~ I was thinking thyroid too.  Hope you get some answers.

bec ~ wtg on getting that mulch down!

I'm heading out for 6 miles in about 5 minutes and it's already 76 degrees and so humid that the windows are fogged over.  Should be "fun".  All three kids are doing a bike race this morning, then DD2 has a birthday party at 1:00 and we're going swimming this afternoon.  It's supposed to be a high of 98 this afternoon so swimming is necessary.  I think we skipped spring and went straight from February into August weatherwise.

Gaye: I hope you meet some fun people at that wedding!

Sparkle: greensad.gif for your hair! That sounds very distressing. I hope you get some answers soon.

Bec: That play area sounds fantastic!

Geo: A fairy book about paleontology? Awesome.

Mel: aw, sorry that might not work out with the solo weekend. Maybe a rain check? I hope your little one feels better and you guys have a good weekend anyway.

Penelope: frankly, I would not hide the toe. Purple sandals? thumb.gif

JG: That is tough to run in that kind of humidity.

I am taking my younger 2 to see a musical this afternoon downtown. We will probably all meet up at the beach afterwards and I hope to run a 5k that is being held down there. I am not registered, but it is a small fund-raiser type thing, so I hope to be able to just walk up and pay. In any case, I'll bring running things.

DH and I not speaking much today. It's been a rough week (for me), from which I was finally feeling recovered and relaxed yesterday, only to have DH upset at me yesterday for something inane and then me overreacting and now we're both miffed. I'm actually not mad anymore, just stuck in this mode and too busy with other things to try and work it out... and wonder why is it my responsibility to get it worked out anyway... I think I'll just ignore it for a few more hours and see what happens. I think I am mentally 15 years old today.
