Austin doctors who accept Medicaid

Hello!  I moved to Austin a while ago and recently had to sign up for Medicaid.  I've looked through as many of the doctor recommendation forums I could find, but either none of them accept Medicaid or they only do so for existing patients.  Can any other Austin moms who use it tell me who they see?  I'm living just west of the Mopac, and just north of the river.

Thanks!

Dr. Clive Polon at St. David's Central. He's AMAZING and many of the midwives here refer to him for any hospital issues.

There's different types of Medicaid (Amerigroup, STAR, CHIP, and then different types of CHIP) and some of them accept some types and not others. I looked online to find a doc that took my daughter's CHIP, went all the way to northern Cedar Park to see them, found out they take a different type of CHIP. I have a +$200 bill now for an annual check up.

In the giant thingie of paperwork they send you there should be a list of docs that take their insurance. Of course it doesn't tell you if the doc is any good or not.

The list of doctors Medicaid provides, both by mail or online, is inaccurate. That list is probably many years old, since not even ONE doctor in that list accepts Medicaid. If you need medical care, you have to either go to a minor emergency clinic or a hospital.

I found this out while looking for a doctor for my brother, who is disabled, and who still has a hard time getting proper medical care.

I hope you have better luck than I did. If you do find a doctor, please let other people know. Thank you.

I did manage to find a doctor I really like at the UT Family Wellness Center, which is specifically for people on public assistance or without insurance.  Dr. Naomi Hanser is amazing - exactly the kind of doctor you want to see when you need one.

I also called some of the CommUnity Care Clinics and they do accept new patients, although the ones I called had really long wait lists to get in.
