When did you make your first "pregnancy appointment"?

I just got my BFP yesterday.

I actually feel silly asking this question because I have been pregnant before; I just can't remember for the life of me after I confirmed my pregnancy via HPT, how soon I went to the doctor. I remember going ahead of time for a consultation before I even became pregnant to get prenatals, but this time around, I have been taking prenatals for some time now, so is there any reason I need to go to the doc before six weeks, or should I just wait until I'm 6 weeks along? (Unless I am having problems, of course).

(I should add my last pregnancy was high-risk, preeclampsia, but I don't really see anything they could do for me this early different than what they would do if I didn't have PE.)

In my area if you want a midwife, you need to call about 30 seconds after the positive test, otherwise they may not have room in their schedule to fit you in!

However, with docs, it's not so rushed ... locally, they don't want to see you before 10/12 weeks, unless there is a history of risk that needs to be addressed before that.

the instant I get a bfp I go for a midwife hunt and set up a couple appts to *meet* midwives, to see who I want. Then once I know who I want, I call them up to let them know and schedule the first appt.. which would be for around 10-12 weeks.

I started looking/interviewing mws for a homebirth shortly after my bfp -- I let it sink in for a few weeks before starting my "work"!  LOL!  Once I found one I liked, I started appointments around 12 or so weeks.  Congrats on your bfp!!

I've got my first prenatal appt. with my midwife next week (a day before 7 weeks).

I interviewed my midwife within a week of getting my BFP, but our first appointment isn't until 11 weeks. She said anytime between 8 and 12 (something about when we can hear the heartbeat, but I'm not so sure I want to use a doppler, but that's another story). I probably would have gone closer to 8, but she's only in the office near my house on Fridays and every Friday I have is booked during the evening (after my husband gets off work), so we're just waiting.

With my first I was with an OB and I was seen as soon as I got my BFP because my previous gyno told me I was at a higher risk of etopic pregnancy. Turns out that was just him being a jerk.

It totally depends on what you want/need and the care provider you choose.  As pp's have mentioned sometimes you have to call right away to reserve your spot in their practice even though you may not be seen for many more weeks.  Often care providers don't have you come in until you're 10 weeks or so b/c that's the point at which a heartbeat can usually be found with a doppler.  However, you may feel like you want an earlier appointment for whatever reason and if you ask you can usually get one (say for a dating u/s, hCG levels, etc.).   Congrats on your BFP!!!!

With #1 with an ob is was around 8/9 weeks.

#2 10-12 weeks with mw

#3, I think 12-13 weeks with mw

#4, It will be around 14 weeks, but mostly because of our vacation and the fact that *I* didn't even know I was pregnant till almost 9 weeks. I did go in for a quick u/s for another eason and confirmed the EDD since I thought I knew, but wasn't sure. (Turns out I was right.)

I made my first appointment around 13 weeks with both #2 and this pregnancy.   I'm low risk, so there isn't much they can do in the beginning anyway.

18 weeks so that I could have a 20 week ultrasound.  Around here you get a slim choice of family Dr.s to see you during your pregnancy and no choice of who delivers your baby, so there was  no rush to get into a certain practice or find a midwife.

Thanks guys.  I made my appointment for 8 weekssmile.gif

I am on a total cucumber and white vinegar kick.  From what I have researched, white vinegar seems totally safe unless you guys know otherwise.
