Anyone had surgery for idiopathic scoliosis? I'm not entirely sure what the procedure is called, but my sister's going to have it in a few months. They'll fuse rods to her spine; she'll have at least one procedure, going in through her back, and possibly another surgery where they go in through her chest (to fix the upper part of her spine - she has two curvatures).
Â
I'm asking because we were planning on going with her to Disneyland at the end of the year (finances permitting, which is dubious at this stage anyway, but hey). Obviously we don't want her ripping open her spine by going on a jerky/high-G-force ride while she's still healing, so I asked her to ask the doctor about it. The doctor said "Well, of course you won't be able to go on everything, but you should still make the trip, sounds fun" - which I interpreted to mean "Because this surgery's happening at any time in the next 2-6 months, if you want to go on the jerky rides like Indiana Jones, you should reschedule the trip for a few months later". Mum, however, interpreted it to mean "You'll never be able to go on jerky rides once you have the surgery".
Â
Anyone know which is more likely? Obviously we'll clarify at a future appointment, but in the meantime I'm curious. Has anyone had scoliosis surgery and subsequently been on roller coasters and other such rides? Were you told to avoid certain things for a particular length of time after the surgery?

Thanks. :) I know it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but if I were my sister facing surgery like this, I'd want to have a trip to Disneyland to look forward to afterwards...
