CT & RI need info for vacation

Hi there.

I am in NJ & do not know much about your states. We are thinking of doing a 'Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives' road trip this summer.

Are there things to do in these areas (besides eat) that we could do to actually make a week long vacation out of it?

CT - Norwalk & Bridgeport

RI - Providence & Narragansett Pier

Are these areas safe? Do you recommend a different town to stay in that is close to one of these areas instead of the actual town I listed? Anything specifically to see in these areas? Totally just in the thinking stage here. Maybe staying 2 or 3 nights in CT & 2 or 3 nights in RI. We have an almost 3yo DS & a 14mo DD.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks!!

There is definitely stuff to do in all of those towns, especially with kids!  Like any city, there are good areas and bad areas, but overall, yes they are safe (I lived in Providence for 7 years)

Norwalk - there is a Childrens Museum (stepping stones) and the Norwalk Maritime Aquarium

Bridgeport - Beardsley Zoo  and probably a lot more, but I'm not as familiar with those areas

Providence - Zoo, Childrens Museum, RISD art museum, parks, Natural History Museum

Narragansett - Beach! Lots of farms.  But also easy driving distance to Newport!   And actually, anywhere in RI is easy driving distance to anywhere else, so you could easily do day or half day trips to anything in the state

Mystic Seaport is also between the two cities and a wonderful place to visit!
