I'm sorry you feel that way and would be happy to discuss specific instances with you via PM. But if you search, even in the INV forum, you will see posts that advocate (informed) vaccination for particular situations and/or risk profiles. (I can't think of any examples off the top of my head, but I know foreign travel is a question that comes up frequently.)

I know that under our old UA, we did remove/move/request edits for a lot of stuff, so I understand why people would feel frustrated. But we really are just trying to give folks a place to share information and get their questions answered. I'm sorry if I haven't done a perfect job of that in the past; but I'm workin' on it!

I like dried, but isn't "better" kind of subjective? Better in what sense? If I need beans for dinner, and forgot to soak them, I'm probably going to think canned are better, yk? OTOH...dried taste better, imo...and they're light years cheaper!

Convenience plays into it but I don't like the mushy that is canned beans. I have found that soaking overnight + crockpot cooking leads to good beans. I suck at planning ahead but I am getting better at it.

Gosh, I would think more of you would need time to mother your children/work/take care of your home/own self  instead of fighting about what makes one place on the web superior to another.

While I decry the rude tone and language with which you saw fit to word your question, I do understand why you ask. (Though I fail to see how anything I said could be construed as "fighting.")

The answer is, I come to MDC now and then out of curiosity, to see what's going on in the place which was once important to me as a mother. If I find something I want to comment on, I do. Is that so difficult to understand? Where is it written that one owes allegiance to one internet forum and only one?

Then I guess that makes it ok to be snarky and rude online.  I try to model the behavior I would like to see from others.  I am not 100% at it, but I try.  I think if more people did that (like whoever this no-name is person you refer to) maybe even you would be satisfied by the tone of discussion on MDC.

I was getting good at it, then I had dd2 and got derailed, and haven't made it back yet. It's a good day if I've figured out what we're having for supper by 3:00. :o

I think this has been a fairly interesting conversation, actually.  The TWWS contingent is being asked questions, and are answering them.  I think there's been some pretty valid constructive criticism all around.

You know, when I first heard the name of the site, my mind went right to...blush.gif well, maybe this is the wrong forum for that.

See, my big thing about the over-moderation was always the 'cannot reference other threads' because it protected those posters who hate one or all of their kids. Or whose partners abuse their kids.

Yeah, I think that rule was an example of us trying to address one issue and creating others in the process. The rule was created when some members would search another member's posts going way back and throw them back in her face when it really wasn't helpful - like, "Well, you say you're frustrated because your husband doesn't help out enough around the house, but here you said in 2005 that he was a great help and cleaned the kitchen most nights, and then in 2004 you wrote about how tired he was after work and in 2002 you said you got mad and yelled at him... so really you have no right to be frustrated because your husband is clearly a saint and you're mean to him." Not exactly that, of course, but stuff like that. So perhaps we threw the baby out with the bathwater there. If people were bring up old posts in order to complete the full picture and not to just have another way to score points on the original poster, I think that's different....

I have heard that pressure cookers do a good job cooking dried beans. I have also heard they got good at making pressure cookers. Still, I have a phobia of fire and it is hard for me to take the plunge into the world of pressure cookers even though people I trust swear by them.

What she said wasn't callous and rude? Even if she misunderstood? No Dr. Seuss and Ghandi quotes for her?

My own interest in MDC has been dropping for a while, but I'm not going anywhere else, because I'm trying to cut back on my online time, in general. :)

Me too. I've read this whole thread with great interest (and yes, have managed to refrain from visiting TWWS to see what snark-fodder I've made in the past), but it's left a vaguely "blah" taste in my mouth. MDC and I have never exactly seen eye to eye on everything (I remember getting mod-slapped once for being too anti-circ in the CAC forum... that was bizarre), but I used to find this place fascinating. So many different viewpoints, lots of good intelligent debate, and so many new concepts. Now... I still spend way too much time here, but mostly out of habit. I think it's partly because I've exhausted the research potential of some of the relevant parenting topics - I know about the benefits of breastfeeding, so the chances of me coming across new info rather than more of the same old arguments are slim. But also... it just ain't the same. I don't know if I can quantify how exactly, but I just don't get the same vibe I used to.

I'm sticking around right now for my DDC, and for the occasional parenting/health/food-related question I want to ask; but once this baby arrives, I think I'm more or less done here. Should spend more time in the real world, anyway.

Maybe you have missed all the posts saying that there is much more to TWWS than just MDC snark? There are EIGHTEEN forums on that board. We are a community, just like MDC. We have seen each other through births, deaths, divorces, illness, parenting challenges... all the things that happen here. For many of us, it is our extended family. If you think TWWS would just disappear because there's no reason to discuss MDC, I'm not sure you've been reading along.

I am stunned that anyone would have time to set up a whole forum just for moaning about another forum!  I am also shocked they would call themselves "trolls with wooden spoons" - when i thought trolling was a generally frowned upon thing?  No?  And stirring also, not a hugely admirable pasttime?  Or is it?

I am even MORE stunned that those who are being stirred up are actually willing to join up to the other forum and read it!  I mean it's OPTIONAL bullying - opt out!

And everyone can feel free to grab my posts and bitch and fret about them elsewhere - i sure won't see any of it!  So have fun!

Geez. Is there no forum here in which to discuss current events? Does celebrity gossip or politics never come up? Do you not come here to moan about your doctors and midwives and pediatricians? Do you come here and complain about how your own parents are giving your children McDonald's and plastic toys, or about how your husband is not managing your money? No one comments on how much free time you must have to have to be posting about your life drama on the internet.

I've said it before, maybe you missed it, Trolls with Wooden Spoons is an inside joke. Our purpose is not trolling MDC for lulz.

Most of us were invited to come check it out, and we "joined" because you have to register to read. Maybe we're inquisitive enough not to judge a book by it's cover? Like a great many of the posters in this thread, we looked around and liked it. THERE'S MORE TO TWWS THAN THE ONE SINGLE MDC SUBFORUM, which everyone seems to be insisting that the title of the Board is all about.

You realize that you guys started this discussion, right? Then over 200 of you popped on over to TWWS and signed up for accounts. Why don't you just let it drop, go on your merry way, and be happy?

Spending too much time on the internet to mother our children? Pot, meet kettle.

Obviously anyone can start a board for any reason they want. I'm one of those "200 of you" who signed up at TWWS so I could see what all the hubbub was about. Curiosity and the cat and all. You all seem like pretty cool ladies. You guys cuss a lot. And y'all are pretty crude. But you are also funny. 10 years ago, when I was at my snarkalicious prime, I would have happily jumped right in. These days I just don't have the time or energy to even consider putting forth the effort it would take to get to know an entire new community and the meanings of the inside jokes and TWWS vocabulary, but I understand those who do. Bacon and Patrick Swayze are two of my most favorite things on Earth. But I'm still not sure if you guys are intending the Swayze thing as a compliment to him or if you are making fun of himheadscratch.gif...which automatically makes me too uncool to be a Troll.

Regarding the above statement, I just would like to point out that although TWWS has 18 forums, MDC Therapy is your second most active one...with over 102,000 posts. Third place is your Repository of Awesomeness with almost 39,000 posts. The next most active forum is ButtHurt Island, with only 19,500ish posts. So as much as I understand and appreciate your stance that you guys are actual friends who have relationships that go above and beyond the internet, it is not an unfair statement to say that a large portion of your site is dedicated to snarking on MDC. A mutual dislike of MDC is one of the main the foundations of your site. You can see how that might be off-putting to members of MDC who don't fit into the "Careless UCers, Radical anti-doctor, Vaccines cause the Autism Cooties" category. No?

Anyway, live and let live. Snark and let snark.

I remember that thread about the trolls and how much they loved wooden spoons.  I thought that poster was kind of a nutter, to be honest, but I sat on my hands and didn't say, "Wow, are you for real?"  I have to admit I was thinking it, though.

You have to register THERE to read anything, not here. Here you can read most of the posts without logging in. There, you get blank pages asking you to log in or register before you can read anything. This is what leads me to headscratch.gif when I see 20 threads that are all, "OMG! OMG! All these n00bs are throwing off my woo!" They know they are being discussed. You have to join before even lurking. Why the surprise that they've had a rush of newbies in the last week or two???

But my post was meant to be primarily supportive of this forum. I see it as a valuable improvement over MDC. They have dissenting opinions there, which are dangerously prohibited here, although the new UA might eventually reverse that. I don't spend enough time on web forums to ever become part of the "in crowd", so I might tire of TWWS place before I ever get around to actively participating, but I approve overall and am highly entertained by and approving of much of what I read there.
