The exceptions are PAP and TAO. (IIRC) I could even see MamitaM's post about mods in Q&S. I typed kathymuggle and birth into google and came up with your profile (first hit), a thread about socialized medicine (4th hit), etc. It is all out there, in the open.

I hear you.  I am grateful for the message actually.  I think a lot of good has come out of this thread.

Now - birth and my username?  My youngest is 8 and I have do not  remember ever being in a birth discussion.  Neat - will check out!  As per socialised medicine, heck yeah.  I am Canadian, lol.

edited to add:  kathymuggle and birth had over 3000 posts.  Good Lord.  I guess nothing ever disappears in cyber world.  I can assure you I am not a super-special snowflake in the world of birth.

Yes, I think a disclaimer would be nice.  I would even go so far as to say " a few posters here do frequent other boards - some of those boards openly berate MDC and its posters".  I do not think it will make much difference, but who knows?  I think people should know what they are getting into when they are posting.

It seems like privacy should be common knowledge, but it isn't.  There isn't a week that goes by that a poster doesn't show how little they actually do know about the net.  Writing in all CAPS is an example (and then not realising people take it as shouting) etc, etc.

I'm pretty sure more than a few posters frequent other boards - let's face it, most people do have other interests besides parenting.

No, you have it right.  I was speaking of THAT thread.  I came into it early and was utterly ASTONISHED at what it became.  The shock value of the OP probably intended to do exactly that.  Some people just LOVE to cause drama.  Im related to a few, so I have become a mock expert on the subject.

Kinda, but not really.

I don't think that it happens that someone agrees with a poster here and mocks them there. I don't remember seeing that happen anyway. In my case, I couldn't respond to certain threads because my head would explode and I'd get a warning or alert. There were a few times here that I got so mad, I was sure I was going to be banned. TWWS was like my pressure release valve. Instead of posting a hostile post asking someone if they were nutso, I'd go over there.

Oh and I live in Switzerland. The US will be getting the Swiss version of socialized medicine soon. ;)

I understand that the internet isn't private, anyone can come in here and read about my life, but it doesn't make me feel very good knowing that my "friends" here are taking my posts and reposting them in a troll site and having a good laugh at me with a bunch of other bitchy ass trolls!

The only thing I like about sharing a username with a book in crappy series of vampire books is that it makes search for my user name on google a little harder. (Apologies to fans of said crappy vampire books wink1.gif

No apologies necessary.  A look at my post history will show my unconditional LUVVVV of crappy vampire books.   wild.gif

This thread is officially become the Energizer thread...it just keeps going and going and going.  The next generation of MDCers will still be hashing this thread over. I can hear it now "my mom posted on this thread way back in 2011.  I'm still pissed my birth was discussed over at TWWS".

I'm registered at TWWS.  I have been spending time over there.  Not to C&P from threads here and make fun of MDCers.  There are simply some areas they go into that are interesting and funny as heck.  Some places here I enjoy.  And no ones gives a crapola.

Use some gentle discipline.  Discipline yourself to allow this thread to gently die.

Seriously,  I don't give a rats a$$ if someone I have never heard of snarks me really bad.   I doubt this thread would be this long if it were not for the cross-over aspect to TWWS.

I agree with this entire post and it pretty much sums up how I feel about it after Ive received all the information.

ROTFLMAO.gif

But honestly, I think the length of the thread has made a lot of us come to realize how a lot of ladies over at twws (and here) feel. Im a lot more understanding about what is going on than I was originally, and I think quite a few other people are too. Now for all of those peeps who havent been subbing from the very beginning, I cannot believe anyone has time to read all of these post!

It's freaky to type one's username into the interwebz.

i've been using the same username since the mid-late 1990s, and goodness knows that 98% of what I said last week is probably not something that I would say (or do or think) this week, so it's kind of weird to think about opinions from my 20 yr old self.

Oh well, fact is, it's like a journal in a sense. That's where I was then. Perhaps just as crazy as today, perhaps less so. I think I'm less angry now. I'm not sure though.

I totally get why some of you don't like the way MDC is run or has been declining, and hey neither do I. Great find a place to vent about it,but is there any reason you need to mock people who post here? Why do you trolls feel the need to copy and paste something that someone has posted here and take the thread apart and make fun of the person? Did you forget that there are real people behind the computers screens who have written those threads and they have feelings? Is fun for you pick that person apart and mock them behind their backs and then come here and hold our hands and act all sweet and friendly to us? Does your troll forum really need to have such meanness there? Silly question to ask of a troll I guess, but seriously you have to remember that this is MOTHERING,a forum for mothers (and fathers) and some of the mamas here may be down (hello PPD) and need love and support from others.

I don't think anyone who is upset about the C&P aspect has answered me... what is the difference between C&P, paraphrasing, or linking to a post?

Maybe this is a generational thing? I first saw the internet before it was used widespread by the general public in 1994. It was my first week of college and my instructor said to never put anything on the internet or say in email that you wouldn't want to find printed out and posted on a bulletin board. I never have. As a professional, if I ever have anything to say to a client or a colleague that's off the record, I will call them instead of email though I have a phone phobia, and these are things that I am truly saying privately that I have every right to have an expectation will stay private! MDC is very popular board with Google.  If I search for "nashvillemidwife" luckily my personal website comes up first. The first hits that aren't my website are links to my posts here. The toxic anti-homebirth doctor who is all over the internet frequently C&Ps my posts as ammunition in her personal war. That just comes along with the internet.

Also, as far as not being a mainstream board, most people don't know that when they get here from Google. They might find information on something they searched for, see how many topics are here and start using it to look up other things and have no idea what they're in for. Then the next think you know they're reading about parents violating their children's privacy with stories about dogs licking their child's penis or moms who are checking their daughter's chest for breast buds every few days, laid out there for all the freaking world to read.

I think you are probably right about that. I didnt use the internet for anything besides research until 2002, and I never really used email for personal communication. I started my interneting using livejournal, moved onto myspace, and then facebook. I think the only messageboard I ever used before 2002 was the one on The Smashing Pumpkins website. And even starting to use the internet in 2002, I didnt have a computer at home until 2007, so my one hour time limit at the library didnt really give me much time to socialize online. I was only introduced to snark sites a week ago...not joking.

Well. If someone brings over a thread that sounds like PPD, you will get 2 pages of "wow that sounds like PPD, I hope she gets some help" followed by people coming over and suggesting PPD and help. People don't snark on PPD and if they tried, well, it wouldn't go well.

Let's say that you read a post where a mom posts that her drunk, alcoholic DH took her car keys and her kids and left after pushing her to the floor. She refuses to call the police to go find her children who are unrestrained in a car with a drunk driver. Are you content to say *hugs mama!*? I'm not. I am freaking out that a drunk man is cruising around with kids on the floor of a van. (The kids are OK)

*removed because it is too upsetting to talk about*

Wait, so the TWWS title came from a snark about zoebird because she was deemed unfit to have her opinions?

Is this junior high?  Really, i can't think how grown women would ever think that is healthy.  You should really declare where the title came from on the front page of the site (for folks like me who haven't joined).  And not the "clever" excuses.  The actual truth.  There could be 70 other subforums on there, it wouldn't change the fact that it was set up as a cyber bullying/bitching forum against one woman.

I think this is the most attention a thread has received on mdc in quite a while...my how traffic has slowed.

33 pages arguing the same basic points over and over againbigeyes.gif

The phrase "beating a dead horse" keeps popping up in my head.
