I started CDing our DD at 14 months, and am wanting to CD this one from day one. I'm just not sure about which diapers are the best for fit and to avoid blowouts/leakage in a newborn-infant. I've used prefolds during the day and a pocket at night for my DD with (for the most part) great luck. I've only ordered the new babe four diapers so far..three fitted and a pocket. I'm not really looking into spending a TON of money (which is why I'm a HUGE fan of pfs) but I also want to make sure I get what will work BEST and I'm not having to buy different diapers constantly for trial and error. I'd really like to just order a bunch more pfs and a few new covers..I'm just confused as to if I should get a one-size-fits-all type or not. I'm sure this has been discussed several times on here..I would gladly scan through all of the threads, but I am starting to feel pressed for time (due to my procrastination lol). TIA!

Best diaper for newborn throughout infancy..
Congratulations on your new little one coming!Â
I padfolded flats/pfs in Thirsties covers and loved it. Easy, economical, and effective. You could get either the Duos (option of snaps) or sized. The xsmall lasted my lo till around 3mo and then the small to about 6mo. I didn't have to purchase pfs since I was gifted most of my diapers but if I had to I would have gotten the Imagine pfs from Nicki's Diapers. I didn't start to use something special for longer nighttime sleeping till about 2/3mo.

Enjoy!

Thanks ladies! Almost everyone seems to say that I can't go wrong with pfs/flats and covers..which was what I was wanting to hear lol I like the simplicity and the price is right. I may splurge on a few FBs for night time. It kind of sucks that one size is usually too big, but I suppose once she grows out of the smaller ones, she can wear her big sister's.

I highly recommend flats and covers. The Osocozy flats are a smaller flat and fit great for the nb stage all the way up to toddler. I like the unbleached the best and they are $20 a dozen, you only need about 3-4 dozen. I also recommend the GroVia shells/covers, these fit nbs very well. GroVia has a summer promo this month 3 shells/covers, 1 50ct pack of biosoakers and 3 samples of the Tiny Bubbles detergent for $49.95.
So if you bought 4 dozen flats and 2 of the promo packs you would have an entire stash to fit from nb to pling stage for less than $200.
I have never tried GroVia, but that does sound like a pretty good deal..I'm assuming the biosoakers are inserts?

Kissaluvs are awesome for containing bf poop. I've used a lot of PF, pockets, AIOs....but the KL are great. They are commonly rec'd for newborns and we are still loving them. I use wool covers exclusively so poop blow outs means I have to wash a cover. Not having blow outs is really nice.
I LOVE those wool covers and think they are adorable..but it is hard to swallow the price. Can you typically use the same cover all day as long as there are no blow outs of poo on the cover?

Another fan of flats/prefolds and Thristies Covers. I could use the Duo Size 1's from birth - 5 months and the Size 2's from 4 months until now at 15 months.

I love the organic flats and the organic prefolds I bought from Green Mountain Diapers.  I think for the newborn stage you should get the size small flats, I Love them!

We also use a fuzzi buns at night with a doubler and the regular insert and it's been great with almost no wet sheets.
I love wool covers but they are expensive. I have two of them and you can use them through the day but I air dry them between each use. Poop of course needs to be washed off.
