How to repair a well loved sling - pictures included!

The shoulder on the Maya Wrap sling I wore with DD#1 is tattered to the point of looking pretty sad.  I have a new Maya Wrap but I don't like the color as much.  Also, the sling I want to repair has been worn to the point that the fabric has a really nice feel so I want to repair it rather than replace it.  It's a size small so too short to cut off.  I was thinking of either covering it or maybe just patching by sewing lots of thread on it.

But, this is not my area of expertise AT ALL so I would love if you  would tell me what you think I should do to make the shoulder look a little nicer (I'm not expecting a miracle).

The pretty way would be to take it apart, add a binding, and resew it. (Or fold things in to make a new edge.)

The super-fast way would be trimming the fray and fray block.

I'd probably just trim the worst of the fray and zig zag everything I could reach easily.

Trimming the frayed areas and zigzag stitching would be the easiest. Once that's done you could see if you can find some binding that would coordinate and add that over both edges. Actually I usually end up using ribbon when I;m doing things like that. I can never find bias binding in the right colour but our craft shop has row upon row of ribbon choices. It's a bit harder to sew though.
