Supplement help?

Thread Starter

I know there are a million threads on this, but I need help choosing what to start taking.

We've been not trying, not preventing for 14 months now, and have been really trying the past 6 months. We are going to start charting temps this cycle (I currently chart cervical position and mucus) and start supplements.

I am thinking I have some sort of hormonal imbalance. I struggle with some depression, have bad mood swings, etc., plus AF is always very heavy and very painful for me, even though she is regular.

I am going to start taking a prenatal for sure, and probably Calcium, Vitamin D, Fish Oil, and a Vitamin B Complex. I want to add some sort of hormone balancer in there, and I was thinking Red Clover Blossom, but I'm not sure. I've heard good things about Dong Quai, then there's Vitex of course, which has benefits even for those without PCOS.

What are you taking and why? Any suggestions for me? Does it sound like I am adding too much?

when i read your post, the first thing i thouhjt was "vitex".   but if your not taking a prenantal yet...DO THAT. thumb.gif  along with those others (b complex especialy)  i would say give that a few months first, then look into vitex.

good luck!

Hi Wild Doula.  Wow, where to start! I just spent the last year trying to address some hormonal imbalances due to PCOS using supplements, so I've done a ton of research.  I think the best aggregated source for such things is a newer community of women found through the Natural Fertility Info website:

http://natural-fertility-info.com/

In sum, what you may find is a recommendation to do a fertility cleanse to begin, as well as adjusting your diet, if necessary.  The store, as opposed to the forum, then lists different supplements for different issues, which can be found on the menu on the left.  Underneath that menu, there is a short glossary of key supplements.  Maca may be a good choice for you.  If you choose to join the forum, the two women that manage the forum, Heather and Dalene, both herbalists and nutritionists, are really great at posting feedback and suggestions on supplements and diet.  The website also has a number of tutorials and videos that are really great providing a great deal of direction on how to use vitex, progesterone, or other supplements.

I don't think you are adding too much, and I think you are on the right track!  Good luck!
