Another discovery: Lassie Come Home! We had a family movie night on the 4th (4.5 yr old twins wanted to stay up for fireworks--which is waaaaay late for them). We all really enjoyed it! There is gentle suspense (relative to Disney or some others). Three scenes I remember being lightly scary (we were sitting with the children the whole time):
- Two hobos trying to rob a kind travelling salesman by attacking him with long sticks and also hitting (and killing his little dog). The girls handled this well, although when I write it here, it sounds gruesome--handled well in the movie, frankly. Lots of family discussion about good and evil ensued...
- Two hunters trying to protect a flock of sheep shoot at Lassie. Their dog goes in for the attack, Lassie wins.
- Dog catchers chase Lassie, Lassie springs from a window of a building, is seen lying on the ground, injured, hobbles off.
I think I also liked the movie because it was so old school--simply made, not over the top.
Dialect can be difficult to understand.

I agree, though, great show!
