Complete newbie needs help

Thread Starter

I am a total novice - I barely know how to thread my machine, so please forgive my ignorance.  I need to figure out how to fix my skirts!  I have a ton of hippie skits - tiered, floor length, one size fits all type deals.  They fit me everywhere but in the waist - all of them have elastic waist bands that are too tight (apparently I am thick waisted in addition to being thick headed! shy.gif).  My goal is this - somehow loosen the waist for some breathing room.  I've tried before to cut into the elastic, but it's sewn in the waist somehow and I don't know what to do! I don't even know what to Google so I am left feeling like a stuffed sausage!  Any help would be appreciated.

Take a deep breath!  Do you have a 'seam ripper'??  The elastic is sewn directly into the waistband - one hope you have to make the waist bigger would be to remove the elastic - purchase a seam ripper for under $3.00 and work in GOOD LIGHT!

Once the elastic is gone you have two choices

1.) replace with a longer length of elastic

or 2.)  replace with a drawstring
