My 11 month old daughter is biting me while nursing, and it's killing me!! Her nursing has been weird this past week. She will want to nurse, then seem bored by it. Then she chomps away, sometimes at the beginning, sometimes in the middle, and sometimes at the end. I will say no biting, and remove her, but she doesn't seem to mind. Then she will cry to nurse again, and the same thing happens. She is teething right now. Also, I just started my period for the first time since I had her. Could it be teething, or could my menstrual cycle be messing with my supply? She just bit me a few minutes ago. She climbed into my lap wanting to nurse, then bit the heck out of my nipple. Right now I cringe every time I see her mouth coming towards me :(

AF can make your supply tank (mine does) I drink more milk tea by earth mama baby or something and eat oatmeal for breakfast daily. Also a beer can help increase your supply.

Biting can happen for a lot of reasons. My DD is very persistent and will still bite me from time to time (@ 20 m.o). I always remove her and *try* not to let her nurse until 30 min later. I offer water instead. I tell her "mama ouch no biting!" then put her down and go grab water and give her that. I usually give her another shot before I do that though unless she got me real good.
Â
Also whenever my DD is teething (IDK why actually) nursing hurts, almost like my nipple is raw or something. Once the teeth come in it goes away. It's not her biting though IDK if she is bearing down or something...anyway I just sort of bare it and take some motrin or something whenever she is teething.

I am all too familiar with what you are going through mama!

My daughter is 11months old and has been doing the same thing. I usually notice a little more biting when she is teething. Like the PP said, my supply decreases big time (which I think causes her to bite sometimes) when AF is in full force. I eat oatmeal for bfast for about 2 days and my supply goes way up again. Oatmeal helps!!!
Just this week she kept biting me during a nursing session so I pulled her off and we stopped nursing. I don't really think she was super hungry..maybe just bored. I figured that was the reason she was "playing" at the nipple. She didn't cry when we stopped nursing so we just went about our day and about an hour later she nursed again with no biting...

I also notice that nursing her during the first few days leading up to my AF or while she is teething my nipple is always super uncomfortable and has a raw type feeling to it. I cringe everytime I have to nurse.Â
