Healing Cervical Tear

Thread Starter

I gave birth to my daughter (7lb, 14oz) eight weeks ago and just found out that I have a cervical tear. I had been bleeding off and on since the birth, especially since increasing my activity level in the second month pp. I gave birth at home and had a fast labor. The tear happened before the midwife arrived (I was already well into pushing when she got there), so she did not see the bleeding or other signs. I recovered so quickly on all other fronts that the mw assumed that the continued bleeding was due to retained membranes (due to explosive water breaking).

Anyway, the cervical tear does not appear to be all that serious. I am not bleeding very much. However, it has been going on for a long time. I'm wondering if anyone has ideas about how to promote smooth healing. My midwife has me on double the nettles I usually take--2 quarts/day. I'm supposed to limit activity as well. Wondering if there is anything else I can do. I would like to give birth at home again next time. I will be in my 40s at that point so want to make sure I stay super healthy and hopefully scar-free at the tear site.

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter! I'm sorry you're dealing with this tear, and I hope it heals soon. I don't have any knowledge about how to help with this, but I did ask the moderators if they could recommend a forum that may get you more knowledgeable readers (and therefore more responses): maybe in the birth professionals forum, the birth and beyond forum, or health and healing. Good luck!

Thanks for the report tear! Those are good suggestions. I am going to say that this thread would probably be the most appropriate in Health and Healing so I will go ahead and move it over there. smile.gif

I'm hoping someone has looked with a speculum to see what is going on.  If it's still bleeding off & on this far postpartum, you would be well-served to at least get an opinion from a compassionate GYN to see if you need a repair.  Anytime there is a cut in the body, there will be a scar, the question is how big and how it will affect you--you can work on helping it be more pliable once the injury is stabilized and healing.  Cervical lacerations, depending on their size, can affect future pregnancies, increasing risk for preterm birth.  It's not something that only affects labor and birth.

Getting more information would be the first step.  If it's small, it's possible that it could be chemically cauterized in the office and be done with.

Just my two cents.  Best wishes for speedy healing.
