How can I hear dd better in the car?

And vice versa. One of the major drawbacks to rearfacing in the back seat is how hard it is to hear dd. Help!

I have a mini van and it can get really hard for them to hear me and me to hear them in the way back. I turn off the radio if it is on and will even shut off the heat/fan if need be. Some days are a lot of asking each other what lol. I explain to them at a young age to talk louder and they get the idea quickly.

Kind of. Although it reminds me of how when I was a kid in the minivan (and I mean like 16 years old) it was incredibly hard to hear anyone in the front seat. It was nearly impossible (literally impossible on a highway) to hear them if any window was open at all.

Darn it, I was hoping by now the in-car intercom system I wanted as a kid had been developed. I can probably get my own voice over the car's speakers by fiddling with my speakerphone options, but I don't exactly want dd to have a cellphone in her lap for a whole car trip, y'know? (Dangerous for both of them.)

http://www.hearinglosshelp.com/articles/loopsystems.htm Oooo, these look potentially good. Depends on how the equipment actually is.

We've been having some issues with this too.  It's not so bad on short trips around town, but most of our driving is done on the motorway for a few hours at a time.  DD1 gets bored and wants to chat but even with the radio off I just can't hear her over the noise of the road/traffic/wind etc.  And forget about it if it's hot and we have to have a window open!! (No AC)

I don't have any solutions, just commiseration.  And I've taken to letting DD1 play with my iPod in the car only as an alternative form of entertainment...

I've actually put my baby monitor in the car to hear dc better. She can't hear me any better of course but I like being able to hear her.
