And vice versa. One of the major drawbacks to rearfacing in the back seat is how hard it is to hear dd. Help!

I have a mini van and it can get really hard for them to hear me and me to hear them in the way back. I turn off the radio if it is on and will even shut off the heat/fan if need be. Some days are a lot of asking each other what lol. I explain to them at a young age to talk louder and they get the idea quickly.Â

Kind of. Although it reminds me of how when I was a kid in the minivan (and I mean like 16 years old) it was incredibly hard to hear anyone in the front seat. It was nearly impossible (literally impossible on a highway) to hear them if any window was open at all.
Â
Darn it, I was hoping by now the in-car intercom system I wanted as a kid had been developed. I can probably get my own voice over the car's speakers by fiddling with my speakerphone options, but I don't exactly want dd to have a cellphone in her lap for a whole car trip, y'know? (Dangerous for both of them.)

http://www.hearinglosshelp.com/articles/loopsystems.htm Oooo, these look potentially good. Depends on how the equipment actually is.

We've been having some issues with this too. Â It's not so bad on short trips around town, but most of our driving is done on the motorway for a few hours at a time. Â DD1 gets bored and wants to chat but even with the radio off I just can't hear her over the noise of the road/traffic/wind etc. Â And forget about it if it's hot and we have to have a window open!! (No AC)
Â
I don't have any solutions, just commiseration. Â And I've taken to letting DD1 play with my iPod in the car only as an alternative form of entertainment...
