My little guy was born in Nov at 30 weeks (almost 31). Â I received steroid shots at 26 weeks and they gave me one shot the night before he was born but did not have enough time to give me the 2nd one. Â He was on O2 in the hospital for about 2 weeks until his PDA closed and then was on room air. Â He came home at 35 weeks with no O2.
Â
After he came home, he got exposed to plenty of colds courtesy of my older 2 kids (plus it was a very bad year for bugs around here according to our ped). Â It seems that every cold he got, it affected his lungs worse. Â Well, he just caught another cold (it's June--we aren't supposed to be sick right now!) and ended up on O2 Â for a few days. Â Our choices were to either go to the hospital or do home O2---pretty easy choice IMO. Â We are looking at using it 24 hours for a few days and hopefully on Monday we can go to using it just while he is sleeping (and in the car probably).
Â
Anyway, a few of questions about it since unfortunately, I'm sure that there are mamas in this forum who have dealt with this.
Â
First--are there any tricks to keeping the canula in his nose? Â It seems to rotate out, especially when he is nursing. Â He actually isn't pulling at it too much.
Â
Second--what is the best way to remove the Tender Grips from his cheeks? Â I know they don't need to be replaced very often, but we have played with the canula a bit too much trying to keep it in place and they are starting to lose their stickiness.
Â
Lastly--how do you work it when your child only needs the O2 when sleeping? Â Do you leave the Tender Grips on them when they are awake without the O2? Â
