Green Pasture butter oil and cod liver oil - how do you eat it?

Hi All,

I just received my two bottles and was very excited for me to start and also give to my 2 yr old dd.

However, I just can't get over the taste.

Any suggestions on how I can take this?  And then also how to give to my dd?

Thank You!!

I started using butter oil and cod liver oil about a month ago. I've mixing it in with the melted coconut oil and water that I take before breakfast. (i also mix in a 1/2 tsp of apple cider vinegar..actually kinda helps it taste good and gives it a little zip)  It goes down just fine.  At first I tried taking it straight but even though I got the chocolate flavored combo, it still made me gag a little.  I think it was the texture.   This week I started trying to give it to my daughter in various ways.  This morning I mixed it in with her applesauce and that was a winner (but again, it was the chocolate combo)  I placed my next order for the regular unflavored variety of separate butter oil and cod liver oil so I'll have to see how that goes.  Maybe I'll continue giving the flavored variety to just her.  My big question with all of this is how much to give to my daughter.  She's also a toddler; 16 months old.  I've read adult recommendations but haven't seen any for children.  Have you found that info and, if so, where?

Thanks and good luck!

Michelle :)

Infants and toddlers get about 1/4 tsp, half of the adult dosage. You can warm some raw milk, add some melted coconut oil and the CLO to it, and let the little one drink that.
At this point, my baby gets hers in her raw formula.
For myself, I put the FLCO in capsules, or I float it on a bit of OJ.
Butter oil I just put in a bit of warm water and swallow it.
For little one, you can mix it into regular butter, and put it on a cheese slice or a cracker of your choice.

Thank you for your answers.  I'll try a little with her toast and regular butter for the butter oil.  I'll see what I can mix the CLO with.

I got the cinnamon flavor and just put it on a flatish spoon or knife and stick the spoon far into my mouth, past the taste buds, and swallow it.  I don't have any trouble with it.  The cinnamon flavor is really not bad at all, even when I do taste it.  And when it's cold from the fridge that takes some of the taste away too.  I chase it with coffee.

Any tips on how to put FCLO in capsules?  It's sticky stuff.

Use the little syringe that came with the oil.
3 size 00 capsules totals one serving, or, 1/2 tsp.

For next time, you could try Dr. Ron's brand. They have a fermented butter oil w/cod liver oil in capsule form, and it smells not so great but you can't taste it when you swallow the capsules. Just for an option. I give my kids a cod liver oil, can't recall the brand, that has a strawberry flavor and they take a small teaspoon and chase it with juice most mornings. Good luck!

I'm about to place an order for CLO and BO.

I thought someone mentioned a really yummy gummy type of CLO for kids once. Anyone know what this was?

Those were a trial run. They ended up getting all stuck together in the bottles. Then, when they tried to find a good manufacturer for them, the only company that would take them on was in China, so they said no thanks. Now they have emulsified flavored liquids.

I use the cinammon type and just swallow it, followed by the drink. If you don't try to smell it it's ok. For my toddler I mix it with applesause and he eats it easily. WAPF recomments 1 ts for adults and 1/2 for toddlers of the fermented cod liver oil. I haven't tried the butter oil yet.

My kids will take the cod liver oil (orange flavoured) if they have some milk or kefir to chase it with. I personally find the orange flavour disgusting, really fishy. But I actually like the cinnamon flavour! Not fishy at all to me. Whereas the rest of the family loathes it. So I think it's a matter of finding the type that works for you. Such a shame they don't sell little taster packs. I would have started using it years ago but I was scared to spend that much on something the kids would refuse.

Butter oil is another matter. We all hate that! Even mixed with butter and spread on stuff. So I've been making it into little chocolate truffles, each with about a quarter teaspoon in. And now they fight to take it! I have not problem with them having a little dark chocolate every day, especially with the HVBO in it.

I have unflavored FCLO/BO blend gel, and I hide it under a bit of applesauce and put the spoon really far back in my mouth. It's the texture for me, more than the taste. DS looooves homemade beef jerky, so I dip the jerky in the gel and he sucks it off.
