Are there ANY elementary 7-day boarding school in America?

Hi, All.

Looking for US elementary 24/7 boarding schools.

Thx :)

Google "boarding schools" and "elementary" and "united states."  You'll see a lot of sites that have state-by-state info.  I haven't heard of any boarding schools that start below the fifth grade (outside of special needs schools) but it is worth a shot to dig around.

Find nothing. But, really, thx for your advice. There are a lot of high schools and a few number of middle education boarding institutions (11 yrs and older).

Unfortunately, that seems to be true. There is only Oakland School in Virginia for kids with learning disabilities, starting at grade 2.

I had my boy studied by an french-spoken boarding kindergarten/school Pré Fleuri Alpine in Chemin de Curnaux, Switzerland. From 3 to 7 years. He's now at grade 2 by US educational stages classification and I dont know what to do...

North Country School in NY state has a great reputation, but doesn't start until grade 4.  I found one school that starts at 3rd.http://www.jbsa.org/bementnew2.htm   They have younger grades, but not boarding.  It might be that they would make an exception.

Can I ask why you can't have your child with you?  And why you can't leave him/her where he/she is?

I can't imagine sending my young child away to boarding school.

That's cool, but maybe she has legitimate reasons/questions?  Some which may not fit into what all us view within our own comfort zones?  I get the same things about sending my child to preschool ALL DAY.  She was seeking advice on a specific question.

Hi Sarah,

Welcome to Mothering.com. I see this is your first post (or almost) and you came here looking for boarding schools. I'm sorry I can't help you out as I don't know anything about that. Is there anything else you're wanting to discuss? Have you looked around at this bulletin board much and read some of the other threads? We're really, really big  - I think one of the largest online communities and certainly the largest focussed on parenting. Of late, I think we've been attracting people who sometimes start weird threads just to get everyone talking. I'm sure that's not you, but I just wanted to put that warning out there.

Are you looking for a special needs school? Did you try a google search? Is the child in school now? If so, can your present school give you any recommendations? Did you find 5-day boarding schools, but not 7-day schools? Is there some reason your child cannot continue to go to the swiss school?

This one seems to start with K- http://www.boardingschoolreview.com/school_ov/school_id/545
After that, it seems there are 2 or 3 listed that start at grade 3.

Ah, come on.  Two weeks into summer break and that sounds fabulous right about now.  ;)

As a bonus he may be able to continue his French.

Yes, there are a few.  These three accept boarding students from 3rd grade and up:

Delphian School http://www.delphian.org/ is in Oregon

Bement School http://www.bement.org is in Massachusetts

Ojai Valley School http://www.ovs.org/home.php is in California

Happy Hill Farm Academy http://www.happyhillfarm.org/ is in Texas, and accepts boarding students from Kindergarten and up.  Hope this helps.

Considering that she hasn't been back, I'm going to assume that it wasn't a legitimate question. Even if it was, I have the right to share my opinion.

HA. It's only Day 1 for us and I can see the up side. LOL. Want to do a kid swap?

I am curious as to why you would want to send your child to boarding school at such a young age. Are you thinking you cannot find a good private school in your area? Maybe if you posted the area you live in, maybe we can help you find a good private school?

When they are 5 yrs old...boarding school seems tempting, LOL. But I would not do it.

I'm giving her the benefit of doubt. I figure it was a legitimate question and she hasn't been back because she simply doesn't want to engage in this kind of debate, implied criticism and judgement. Any further information she gives or statement she makes will give people something to talk about.

I thought 12 was the most tempting age for boarding school!

Really? I homeschool, but boarding school for ages 2-5 sounds realllllllly appealling. I hate tantrum-stage. By 5, they are more fun IMO!
