sunscreen

What kind of sunscreen do you use?  The kind we used last year is now making both kids break out in a rash so I need a new brand.  They both have the swimsuits with shorts, rash guards and hats, but if I don't sunscreen them every 45 minutes they both end up burned to a crisp.

We use sunscreen between noon and 3 pm.
We use California Baby Sunscreen

We use Badger, but my kids don't seem to have particularly sensitive skin.  We also only use sunscreen during peak hours (usually 10-2).

We use ca baby and badger and we are in and out all day long.   Jack (2.5) uses our hot tub on the deck has his personal "pool"  I used CA baby in Costa Rica and Punta Cana and no one got even pink.   I also use blue lizard in a pinch.

We use Badger Baby sunscreen.

DD has pretty sensitive skin but the newest brand we've tried - Green Beaver (http://www.greenbeaver.com/sunscreen.html) - has been excellent.  Not really greasy, gentle, organic, and it WORKS.  Mind you, DD has dark-ish skin (I'm white but DH is half Indian) and after a day in the sun yesterday with NO sunscreen she was also fine. :/

The downsides to Green Beaver, as far as I can see, are just that it's only available in Canada, and that it only does as high as SPF 30.

We've tried California Baby and Little Twig. We're now using Badger. My sister is a pre-school teacher and she says her students with really sensative skin all use Badger. Cali Baby didn't work as well as I'd like it to but it made me break out so I won't put it on DD. And little twig worked great but had a smell to it that made me (pregnant) feel sick so I only used that a couple of times. Badger goes on really thick but has worked great for us so far. We're using the "baby" version (only because it was on sale when I went to buy Sun screen).

Have you checked out EWG's Sunscreen guide? or Safe Mama puts out a sun screen cheat sheet that's very helpful. Good Luck!

DS had moderately sensitive skin. We use Aveeno Baby Sunscreen. Heck, I use it on me. One of the main things I like is that it's not greasy or even smells like sunscreen. I'm beginning to use it as part of my daily routine for my face.  The non greasy part is good since we're in the pool a lot and DS clings to me. I don't have to worry about playing "slippery baby" LOL!

Also, daycare has put the Banana Boat Baby brand on him and he didn't break out. However, it definately is greasy and smells like sunscreen.

We use California Baby.  My DS has very sensitive skin and this is the only one that we have tried without a reaction.  You may already know of this site, but I use it regularly to make decisions about the products I use on my family.  Here's the sunscreen guide:   http://breakingnews.ewg.org/2011sunscreen/

I use this for body care products in general:  http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/

We have an odd assortment of kiss my face, jason, arba, and badger sunscreens.

I pick ones that also don't bother my sensitive skin and these companies have done pretty well for our family (I think the jason ones aren't as 'good rated' in the sunscreen chart, but they don't irritate us and don't have the gross sunscreen feel either, plus dd likes the banana smell), I've really liked kissmyface's sunsticks for the kids faces (and their new ones look even better).

We use California Baby and Badger, mostly Badger though.  We have never even gotten pink.  We only use sunscreen if we're out in the sun for a long period and/or around noon, or if the sun feels too strong.

We use Blue Lizard.  It works for us and doesn't break ds#3 out like a lot of others do.

I have found that some sunscreens give me a rash.  I have narrowed it down to the ingredients octinoxate and octisalate. (in case that helps you figure out why your kids are having a reaction)

We use Vanicream 30.  (link to SkinDeep database listing)

The sensitive skin award goes to me and my daughter. I had to change her brand of cloth diapers because she is allergic to the elastic in the thigh, neither of us will tolerate any artificial fragrances for anything with lavender essential oil in it... the list goes on but I won't bore you.

All this to say - we love Badger sunscreen (unscented). It is the cleanest and simplest sunscreen on the market and it works perfectly on people like us who are so white that we are practically blue.
