Midwife care for homebirth nr Frederick, MD

I am a UK doula, currently 13 weeks pregnant and moving to Frederick, MD in August.  I'm getting a bit overwhelmed by the whole US birth system to be honest and could do with some help!

I want to have a homebirth for my second baby and know there is the option of CNM or CPM care.  I'm veering towards looking for a CPM but understand they are not licensed (or is that legal?) in Maryland.  Does anyone know where I can start looking for one or can anyone recommend one in my area?

My first baby was an attempted homebirth which was transferred to hospital due to meconium in the waters (actually, it was just staining and he was 10 days overdue but I wasn't as clued up as I am now!).  He was OP but I only had a 10 hour labour, vaginal birth with entonox and a one degree tear, even though he was 4.76kg.  I'm sure I can birth naturally again.

Can anyone help?  Thanks!

Lindsey

I work for Evelyn Muhlhan, CNM in her homebirth practice in Catonsville.   We do travel to Frederick for births.  If you want to come to a meet and greet the midwife night call the office at 410-455-9659.

Thank you! I wasn't sure if you travelled out to Frederick! I will definitely phone up and come along once I'm in MD in August. Fingers crossed you will still be available for December :)

Even though you've already gotten a response, I thought I'd mention Nannette Jenkins. She's a CNM from Shepherdstown, WV, which is 45 minutes from Frederick. I haven't used her before but I'm pretty sure I'm going to use her for my birth in October. She just started her practice last year, but she has a bio on her website that lists a ton of experience. Here's her website: www.riversidemidwifery.com

Thanks Trinket90! It's great to have more than one option. I'll check whether Nanette practices in MD as well as WV... Best wishes! L.x

I love Liz O'Shea. She's a CPM, but I understand she's currently partnering w/ a CNM & would come to Frederick. Had a great experience w/ her.

Thanks Bax, I'm going to meet Liz and Nanette when I come over in a few weeks and hopefully one of them will be right for me! x
