Hello! My old midwife (we moved) recommended Opti-natal or Vita-natal prenatal vitamins. Does anyone have experience with these? Good/Bad?

Thanks!

I was introduced to Optinatal Vitamin Mineral Supplements after 2 sucessful pregnancies that were determined to be 'high risk' for complications to me and 'high risk' for fetal or newborn congenital birth defects. Even though my insurance and State Medical Assistance did cover prenatal vitamins; I needed the extra boost this product gives.

You have to consider your medical history; your dietary costs that you will need for the pregnancy and I encourage any mother--be they new moms or somewhat already experienced moms to look into this product.

I found for myself the cost of this product even with consideration to the suggested dosages as each trimester progresses, to be of TREMENDOUS savings in the area of preventing birth defects and ensueing medical costs and medical costs related to complications.  When I was purchasing this product it was $25 a bottle. I loved that I could continue taking it while I nursed as well. WOO HOO !!! Health support for nursing moms & babies!!!!!

I loved the research, dedication and committment to moms and babies that went into making this product. I also felt extremely reassured by learning that it was made in the USA. I hope it still is.

While my first successful pregnancy required a major change in diet in the last trimester to prevent congenital birth defects; I learned that pre-eclampsia could be prevented by taking Vit K and magnesium during pregnancy. The Vit K helped my body control the blood loss aftre birth and my baby did not need the Vit K shot that is given as 'routine' just after birth.

The dietary change that was done in my first sucessful pregnancy was: all white dry goods were stripped or taken out, except for salt. Salt was not added to the food that was prepared. All white flour and all white sugar was removed and replaced by whole grain flour, honey, brown sugar which can be made from scratch. My fruits and vegetables were greatly increased, as were, nuts, oats, rye, millet, wheat, barley, cornmeal and soy. Yogurt was made from scratch and served with fresh fruit. NO processed cereals. Meats were lean and various. meat fat was reduced. Maple Syrup was absent and replaced with fruit syrups made from scratch for whole grain pancakes/ waffles. Mid-day healthy snacks were introduced @ 2x a day. A.M. and P.M. Caffiene was reduced. Breads and baked goodies were made from scratch.

I wish all of you the best of luck and many happy days.

I take VitaNatal and like them, other than the cost and the amount/day.  I alternate with Rainbow Light though.  My MW recommended VitaNatal too so thats how I got started.  I do really appreciate their herbal content.
