gasping when nursing or eating?

In the past week, my 6 month old has recently started gasping a lot... like that mock-shock sound people sometimes make. He does frequently (often several times in a row) when he's nursing or eating solids, and sometimes randomly at other times too. It's almost like he's suddenly forgotten how to switch between swallowing and breathing. I don't know. It's disconcerting.

He does have pretty bad reflux, which he takes meds for. Is this something I should be calling the pediatrician about? My mama-radar isn't really giving me any clues about whether it's a sign of something serious or a weird little baby quirk. Any ideas, input, or "oh yeah mine does that too" would be welcome. Has has reflux med dosage been adjusted recently? I wonder if he's having an increase in symptoms that are causing this. That would make some sense with what you say about swallowing/breathing. Reflux can definitely interrupt the normal sequence.

Thanks so much for your reply... his dose was increased a few weeks ago, as his symptoms had been worsening again. Maybe it needs further adjustment. I've just never seen him do this, even before he was diagnosed when things were really awful. I think I'm going to call the ped today.

It is possible that he has started to develop issues with swallowing.  It never hurts to have it checked out by a pediatrician.
