Hi all,
Do any of your children with ADHD take Vyvanse? I am considering it for my son who is newly 7 and recently diagnosed with combined type ADHD. Any feedback/suggestions from the wise?
Thank you.

Vyvanse seems to work well for a variety of people; not quite as hit or miss as other medications. This was the second medication/second dose for my son(7yo) and it is working well for him; even better since I found out that he shouldn't have it with OJ. He is combined type with impulsivity being the most difficult to control. I recently started an evaluation for ADHD and the NP said it was the most widely used medication for their adult ADHD patients--it is the one they try first.
It takes about 1.5 hours to fully "kick-in" though, so I have a timer set to give it to ds no later than 6:30 on school days.
Emmeline, thank you so much for your response. This is encouraging. Does your son swallow the pill whole? Also, is it the Vitamin C in the OJ that affects the potency of the medication? How much does he weigh and what does does he take - if you don't mind me asking? My son's impulsiveness is also our biggest challenge.

I think it's both the acidity of the juice and the vit C; inhibits the absorption of the medication.
Ds is 57lbs and takes 50mg, but ADHD medication isn't prescribed by weight. Ds hasn't lost any weight (though not gained either) but he has grown at least 1/4 inch. He doesn't have any problems swallowing the pill which is a capsule. You can open the capsule but the pill is designed to release the drug gradually over the course of the day--you won't have the same even distribution.
