GMD Organic Prefolds - 6+ Washes to Prep??

I've washed and dried my 2yo's new organic prefold GMD diapers (Cloth-Eez) five times and they are still not ready. Has anyone used a little Dawn to help things along? Is it the natural oils in the organic that take more prepping? The white prefolds were ready in 3 washes.

Should I just start wearing them on him, changing sooner, and they'll eventually be ready? I don't want leaks.

I have heard boiling works well to prep prefolds. I have never done it, heard about it after I prepped mine. Goodluck!

hi, we use the organic gmd prefolds too and i've found 6 HOT wash and dry cycles followed by a boil does the trick.

(discovered how nice the boiling works when trying to banish a yeast diaper rash...works wonders!)

good luck!

Ok, thanks. Looks like I'll do a boil.

Almost done boiling. The suds in the water...is that from the diapers being new and/or organic, or could that be detergent build up from just those five washes?? I haven't really had buildup issues with other prefolds but I also haven't boiled them in order to see the sudsing.  The water has a tinge to it as well, and most of the diapers were unworn. He wore maybe 3 of them but they were clean when I boiled them. I am using Purex Free & Clear (and just went back to that from Up & Up F&C).

Planning on trying Charlie's Soap this summer.

Another update...they're still not ready! ARG! I boiled them for a couple minutes each and dried them. All washes previously were hot, dry on high.

Water still runs off and takes a few moments to absorb. Should I try Dawn?

Are you drying them in the dryer in between each wash?

Yes I am

I dont know then. Maybe try drying them for a super long time. I know when I did mine, I would just keep soaking a towel and throwing it in the dryer with prefolds. I know the dryer makes them puff up. (This was after washing like 10 times)

argh, what a bummer!

when i boiled mine there were suds and a yellowish tint to the water, i thought since they were unbleached (and i'd been using them for a month).

when i do the initial 6 washes i only use detergent (biokleen powder) on the first wash.

try the hot wash w/out detergent?

hope this doesn't turn you off gmds...have you contacted them about this?  this seems like a fluke!

good luck!

Well I'm confused now! nut.gif  I used Dawn, dried again extra long. This totals 6 washes + boiling, being heat dried every time. I poured water on, and they're the same, taking a few moments to absorb and the water runs off a little then absorbs. So, I guess I'll just start using them.  I tested a couple of our old yellow edge pfs that we've used for months and one of them didn't absorb right away and one did.

I did email GMD and they said go to ahead and try Dawn which I did yesterday.
