Given the recent "Operation Blessing " debacle, I would like to see a clearly delineated distinction between Mothering editorial staff and advertisers/others who are posting on behalf of mothering.com.

Is it clear in the User Agreement that threads started by Mothering can appear in the social media? I suspected as much, which is why I asked my question. I will be choosing not to participate in those threads because I like the separation. I would hope that everyone would be able to make an informed decision about whether or not to participate.

I agree.
I became a supporting member in order to remove the barrage of ads and I'm distressed to find out that ads are inserted into the forums under the guise of legitimate discussions. I understand that everyone has to make a living so I became a supporter, but after collecting my money Mothering still subjects me to ads and highly offensive ones for that matter. I believe, in addition, that there has still been no formal site wide apology issued for promotion of "Operation Blessing".

That is not possible. Even if MDC starts a thread, the replies in the thread are "member generated content". So...not possible.
