
I think the disparity comes because people are comparing apples and oranges. Someone who sends their kid to preschool for 6 hours a week is going to have quite a price difference compared to someone who sends their kid to preschool for 40+ hours a week, you know? The price above must be for full-time care?
My youngest is now 9 and in 3rd grade, so it's been awhile for her, but for full-time kindergarten with before and after care (which I could use if I chose to) was still way less than $23,000 a year. If you divide that by 52 weeks, it's over $440 a week. In summer, where I had the option to pay just for the weeks I wanted if I paid more money, it was still only $110. Of course, that's partly where I live. I'm sure my BIL & SIL in Manhattan pay way more than we do.
