Montessori family looking for Indianapolis school

Hello! We are at a Montessori family looking for a Montessori friendly school in the southside Indianapolis area. I am open to considering public, Montessori'like schools and am having trouble figuring things out. Does anyone have any good expieriences to share?

I don't know anything about the area where you live.  I would visit the schools in your area and see how you feel about them.  Good questions to ask are:

 

Is your school accredited by AMI or AMS?

 

How long have the teachers and assistants been working here?  Are they all AMI or AMS graduates?

 

Do you have mixed ages 3 - 6 in one class?  (The answer here should be yes.)

 

What is the teacher child ratio?  (An AMI school will have a higher ratio.  Don't let this scare you off.  It actually works very well.  An AMS school will have a slightly lower ratio but still higher than a traditional preschool.)

 

If it is possible you should observe the classes in session so you can get a feel for how the teachers work with the children and if you think that would be a match for your child.
