it started several days ago, she puked everything up (breastmilk, not yet eating table food) and then dry heaved for an hour every 5 minutes or so until it completely wiped her out and she crashed. it hit her so fast and hard that after she was empty, she was bringing up blood tinged mucus. she was fine the rest of the day and after talking to a nurse about it (hospital hotline), we concluded it was viral and that the blood was a result of broken blood vessels in her asophagus (it wasn't bright red). well, fast forward 3 days (today) and it's hit her again. luckily, it's not as violent, but it's concerning as it no longer resembles a virus to me. she does seem generally ill in the midst of it, but fine afterwards. anyone btdt? look familiar? is it something i'm eating? a condition i'm unaware of? help?

I would think of dietary things first - anything new in her diet or yours? Could she be having a reaction to something she's allergic or intolerant to? If it's in your diet, it could take some time to process through to her, so think about the couple of days ahead of the episodes (24 hours, mostly).
It certainly could be some sort of condition that she has that you're unaware of, though off hand, I can't think of what. Many things cause vomiting and it's not typically a big deal, but if it happens again, I'd probably want to get her checked out, especially if you can't identify a food trigger. She's too old for something like pyloric stenosis to be likely, and that would be a problem at all times, not just here and there. That's the only thing I can think of specifically that causes lots of vomiting.
I hope it's a virus that's clearing out and she'll be perfectly healthy from here on out! Keep us posted!

Did she have a fever? My dd has severe food allergies and lack of fever when she gets sick usually clues us in that its a food reaction and not viral.
Â
That being said though, we've had a "disappearing and reappearing" virus run through this house several times now. Very recently in fact. The kids go for a few days seeming fine and then it hits again.
Â
Idk if its possible to catch the same virus twice but I've heard that the rotavirus can be acquired over and over. Â Â

my initial guess was also an allergic reaction, but the nurse said allergies wouldn't manifest that way. (i have no idea--none of my other kids have ever had allergic reactions)
Â
my diet currently consists of very high raw fruits and vegetable. no dairy, no gluten. what do babies typically react to in a mother's diet?
