7 Month DS Yanking Penis - Hard!

So my sweet baby has discovered his penis - (well done, son!).  The last few days whenever I change his diaper, he tends to grab his penis, which is obviously totally fine - in itself not a problem whatsoever.  Recently, he's been yanking extremely hard and streeeeeetching it, not gently.  My question:  Can he hurt himself?  I ask because sometimes when he's teething on his nubby spoon and gags a little on it, he doesn't pull it out of his mouth (I'll or someone else will do it for him).  I'm afraid that he'll feel pain and not release his penis as a result.  (He doesn't seem well-versed yet in cause and effect.)

Am I worrying for nothing?

My DS did the same thing around this age.  I was changing his diaper in front of his (male) cousin, who's 8, and he said, "That looks like it hurts!"  The phase lasted a short time, maybe a few weeks, and then he was over it.  As long as you have no reason to suspect your LO isn't feeling pain at all, ever, like in one of those rare exotic disorders... then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Same here! Sometimes DS's tugging makes DH cringe.

On a really nice day we tried some outdoor diaper-free time. The novelty wore off in about 5 minutes and he was on to other things.

My baby discovered his penis around four months, and still has fun with it  ~and probably will for the rest of his life, lol!

He never yanked it so hard as to worry me though, so I guess our situation is different. As for your DS, I would not worry at all. If what he's doing hurts him, he'll express that (I mean, doesn't he cry at other instances when he gets hurt?) and stop doing it.

My only issue with the genital twiddling is when he makes a big ole poo and it's all over even in front and he gets it on his hands....eeeeew!

My two year old was sitting on my vanity naked this morning while I was drying my hair and he was grabbing his with one of those claw hair clips I told DH and he said he'll stop if it hurts...it still freaks me out though!

It's shocking how rough they are with it. Ds pulls on his foreskin so hard sometimes I think he could stretch it clear over his head. Shudder.

hehehe.... my nine month old has been discovering himself for a couple of months now. we have diaper free time a few times a day. for the first five minuets he is exploring a lot and sometimes just sits there holding his penis. anyways after a little while he gets bored and finds something else to discover. until the next time the diaper is off and he's like 'whoa what's that thing, let me see if i can pull it off?' he's only pulled on it hard enough to scream a couple of times, i guess he found out that wasn't too fun or maybe it was just too boring for him. the only time i've taken action was the one time his big sissy (3yo) tried to help 'baby bubba take the worm of his but' that took some explaining but now she is quite articulate about what a penis is and why she won't touch his.

My 1 y/o DS loves his penis. Seriously, every time he is without a diaper, he grabs and pulls and yanks...I swear the other day he pulled his foreskin long enough to reach his belly button. I keep on thinking that it's just got to hurt, but he seems happy to be playing with it. Go figure....I guess he knows what hurts better than I do.

Ok, I'm not normally one to do the compare & worry thing, but, DS is 10.5 months & hasn't discovered this yet. Should I worry? Am
I doing a disservice by not having diaper free time? How do I have diaper free time when he doesn't sit still ever?

Nah, I wouldn't worried about it.  When my DS was doing it today in front of my sister who has a 4 year old son (during diaper change...we don't have diaper free time either, although it does sounds like a fun, albeit daring, activity) she told me that her 4 year old didn't get interested in his penis until much later.  And he eventually definitely did.  :)

My little guy does this too!! I figure if it hurts, he'll let me know. The only thing is.. he does this even when he has a massive poo and gets his hands in the poo and.. ack.. then it's bath time. He really likes to yank his penis though!
