"Washable Wool" for dipe covers?

So I bought some big mens' 100% wool sweaters at a thrift store, as per my plan to try my hand at making some wool pants and shorts for my son, and only after three felting attempts with the red sweater, mysteriously failed, did I re-read, and finally understand, the tag: "Super washable wool"! Face-palm! Can I just cut it, hem like crazy, and make a cover with it anyway? It escaped the pillow case the first time and got some holes in it, I guess from the agitation, so it's not wearable, arg!

Basically, then, I just need to know if the chemical process that renders wool washable also renders it unsuitable for diapering purposes, and/or whether there's any easyish way to reverse that process (cue my fantasy of soaking it in vinegar and finding it magically felts afterward...)

Thanks!!

As far as I know it's not reversible - making washable wool "unwashable" :) It's a wool that has been chemically treated and, as you probably can tell, feels different, too.

I have been knitting a lot of wool covers these days and was given a few skeins of "washable wool." From what I understand it basically renders a wool cover as completely moot for how wool is supposed to function as a cover. You can use washable wool but they won't have wool-properties so use a diff diaper cover, too, or a disposable.

I made a "washable wool" pair of shorties that will basically act as regular shorts since it's not actually useful wool.

That's my experience. Hope that helps! :)
