I have 3 boys, and would love to read more on this subject.

Im looking into directing my children using the Waldof methods, but would love to read more on this system.

What are some good books to start with? Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated!

Blessings,

Here are a few books and a website to get you started:

Work and Play in Early Childhood by Freya Jaffke

http://www.steinerbooks.org/otherwaldorf.html

This website has a lot of information and also a great site to order books or request the Steiner Books Education Catalog, which has lots of great children's books as well as very informative and inspiring books on Waldorf.

My personal favorite is "School as a Journey". This is a terrific and inspiring book about a teacher who stays with his students from kindergarten to 8th grade.

Another book I recommend is "Free to Learn". It is a good introductory book.

It really depends on your boys' ages. The previous poster had some good suggestions, but if your children are still young, here are some other books to get started with. Some of these might be available if you check your local library!

Beyond the Rainbow Bridge: Nurturing Our Children from Birth to Seven = quick & simple reading with basic info

You Are Your Child's First Teacher: What Parents Can Do With and For Their Chlldren from Birth to Age Six = not as many people seem to like this one, but also decent

Seven TImes the Sun: Guiding Your Child Through the Rhythms of the Day - good ideas that are easy to implement

Heaven on Earth: a Handbook for Parents of Young Children = everyone seems to love this, but I own it & STILL haven't read it!

Thank you both so much for suggestions!

I will for sure check all of them out.

Another question- my oldest has been in the public school system here in our town, and it has been failing him beyond belief. We are actually fighting right now to get him into a private school because he also has severe learning disabilities. He is a true, rare form of dyslexia, and he also has significant attention issues. Is there a benefit to teaching a dyslexic child with attention issues in the Waldorf curriculum, or does anyone have any experience with this? I ask only because I will be keeping him home with me and will be homeschooling him *if* we do not win our case and get him into this private institution that is geared to teach children with severe dyslexia.

Thanks again.

Blessings,

Shane
