Yeah, it's a happy ending, in that she is alive, but she's probably got a ton of rehab, and surviving it's so rare, I'd absolutely get the vaccine if this were ever an issue.
What an amazing story! And of course this is not a replacement for the vaccine- does anyone really think that??
I'm sure there are people out in the world who would take this and run with it claiming "See people survive rabies, I don't need to take my kid in to get vaxed!"
Ignoring the fact that there are only six known cases of people surviving rabies.
My whole family had to get the rabies vax when I was about 10?.....no reactions from any of us that were obvious. I would DEFINITELY give it to my child if exposed....I've seen enough rabid animals to scare me for life...
Rabies is the one and only vaccine that I would take/administer unequivocally, no questions asked. I'm so glad this girl survived but personally, I would never ever take that chance.
Does anyone know why the girl wasn't given the rabies vaccine once they realized she had rabies? Was it too late at that point? Just curious.
Yeah I would get this one too!
I don't know the specifics of this case, but usually the reason is that once someone manifests the symptoms of rabies they are a few weeks to months out from the exposure. The vaccine or the immuneglobulin is not helpful once there are nervous system symptoms.
