Needed: A fresh start!

Has anyone ever packed up, moved to another state with next to nothing? Please say it can be done. I need a fresh start!

I'm sure it can be done. It's a fantasy of mine wink1.gif

"Next to nothing" is going to be relative. I would be comfortable taking almost nothing. But I would want a financial cushion if at all possible, and a job to go to. But stuff? Things? Eh, leave 'em!

Thanks for your reply. I've gotten rid of just about everything. I believe if I plan it right, it can be done.

It can be done! I did it myself, when I was 19 years old (though I had no kids then, I'm sure it's way harder with kids) -- Everything I owned was destroyed in a hurricaine except what I had evacuated with, so it was easier for me. I moved 10 hours away from my original home.

Wow! I am so glad you posted this because I too am feeling this way. I am planning on moving across the country in the spring with my three kids. I have felt stuck for a long time and also need a big change and a new start. My friend is also moving and she is moving first. We talked about it and will live together and help each other, so I won't be totally alone. But i am in my hometown and have never lived away from here. My family is here, and i can't really tell anyone about this(aside from a few close friends) because it would be months of guilt trips and misery. Because of this it is kind of stuck in dream stage, lol, but inside my head i am committed to it. I am planning it for tax return time so I will have some money to work with. I am also starting to homeschool my kids, so that school will not be interrupted(and because its another thing ive wanted to do for a long time but felt like i couldnt as a single mother. I am looking forward to getting rid of everything except the basics, and figuring out how to get there(cross country trip by car/bus/and or train so that we can see the country on the way:-) ) Thank you for posting this because sometimes i feel like its a crazy idea. I need to know that the impossible is possible(to which a friend recently replied 'the impossible is probable', lol). Pm me if you want to chat:-) How soon are you going?

Hazeldust~ You sound as if you have planned everything just so. If only I had someone to move with and share costs. Good luck on your move in the spring.

I've decided to stay put, save and really plan my move right. I figure we'd travel down south a few times to try and find housing and such. I just want to have it all organized and then settle in the place I really want to be.
