Have you not *read* anything that Pat Robertson has said?  You're ok with aligning yourself with someone who has openly said things that are racist, homophobic, anti-woman, etc.?

What demographic are you seeking to court, Mothering?  Why are you aligning with someone like Pat Robertson?  Why are you posting threads that reek of classism, racism, and homophobia?

I'm glad I've finally poked my head out of LWaB to see what's actually going on around here.  Because from where I'm standing, Mothering, things stink.

I'm glad I've never become a "supporter" of this site.  Now I don't even know if I can, in good conscience, be a visitor.

I've been trying to stick with MDC through the recent changes, main because I'm not sure where else to go.  It seems like each week or so there is something new to see just how far we can be pushed and this is ridiculous.

I took a two-week hiatus from this place for something else MDC and Mothering was doing that I felt went FAR away from my principles.  I came back because I missed the people.  But this... this goes BEYOND what I can tolerate.  This is beyond the most disgusting thing I've read here.  Almost 10 years here and in the last couple of months I can't even believe what MDC has stooped to... to the point that I feel slimy coming here now.  Oh well, all good things come to an end.  Mothering... you should be ashamed of yourselves.

I have no words to explain how appalled I am. As a second generation Mothering Magazine supporter I am deeply saddened by what Mothering has become.  I will not be renewing my supporting membership.

That is disgusting on multiple levels. 

If this is some kind of mistake.... if MDC didn't realize that Pat Robertson founded Operation Blessing, this is a really irresponsible and troublesome mistake. I would hope that they would research the organizations thoroughly before they start begging from its' members to donate.

However, if this is intentional with the full knowledge that they're supporting Pat Robertson, well.... I can no longer in good conscience support MDC.

Not only is Mothering alienating its user base in the pursuit of ad revenue, it is courting a full boycott. I'm amazed that the people in charge are so clueless about how online networking and publicity works. Newsflash: you can't align yourselves with hate groups and get away with it. Also, bad publicity is bad for business. Whether this site is driven by morals or money, this was an incredibly stupid move.

I would really like to know who exactly is posting as "Mothering" because they have made a series of appallingly bad choices. I love MDC and have been a member for a long, long time, but I have really about had it between this and the generally uncivil free-for-all this place has become. I'm even fairly conservative and Pat Robertson does not represent any of my values. This is ridiculous.

I agree that this ad is not something Mothering would typically host. I'm pulling it for Peggy to review. I'll post to update when I can but I cannot leave this accusation up that Mothering supports racism and homophobia so please appreciate the reason for thread closure.

I'm sorry it took so long for me to get back to you about this.

We absolutely agree that this ad was an atrocious one. We pulled is as soon as we became aware of what it was. It was not posted by Mothering staff but by an ad sales rep using the Mothering username, which is customarily used for the placement of Giveaways, Contests, Deals, and for featuring threads.

The incident is being dealt with and we have assurances that our requirement that all direct ad sales ads be approved by us first will be adhered to. We are all deeply appalled that the ad was placed. We are having a meeting with the ad sales team to further discuss it and to make it very clear that something like this should never have happened and will not happen again. We are all very sorry about this.
